His AAV is 3.05, 3.25 salary this year but he does have arb rights

I think it really just depends if we want him or not
Our forwards for next year (and beyond) project to be:
Skinner-Thompson-Tuch
Krebs-Cozens-Olofsson
Peterka-Mittelstadt-Quinn

We could keep Peterka in the AHL for another season, but he seems pretty “ready”
But he’s gonna be here sooner than later imo

So it’s hard to see where Kapen fits in moving forward
If we trade Olofsson, then that would open a slot
But bc of injuries killing his production this season, i don’t think we’re likely to “sell low” on him to make room for Kapanen-
who i wouldn’t consider an upgrade

We also have Rosen coming, who we picked in the mid-1st last year- & i know we really like a lot
And we have three more 1st round picks this draft as well

Kapanen is absolutely an upgrade on Olofsson. Olofsson is a PP specialist.

Well as a dissenting opinion to other Buffalo fans I'd be fine with that trade - I see Kapanen as a good 3rd line energy player - a 2023 2nd is not a deal breaker - the only hitch I can see is what he is expecting to be paid, if he willing to accept a 3 year contract with a couple hundred thousand bump in pay then fine he's makes 3.2 mil now I think 3.7 mil is about the limit - his best season was 44 pts and he was playing with better players then he will get with the Sabres.

I would imagine since Penguins scouts were at the game, they were watching to make a player trade.
Unlikely the Leafs would be sellers more likely the scouts were interested with the Sabres.
Kapanen for a player seems to be the logical conclusion, the question is what players?
Miller one for one would be close, but nearly every Penguin ACGM says the Pens do not need a RHD.
Olofsson one for one is also close but IMO moving RW for LW does not seem likely.
Hagg, not even close; Anderson, Buffalo would need to add; Eakin, Pitt says no; Asplund, not enough; Mittelstadt, now that would be interesting.
Center for RW. Buffalo has only Tuch and Okposo RW signed for next year (highly likely that Quinn will be on the team next year) but Buffalo has Cozens, Krebs, Thompson and Girgensons next year at center.
I would hate to give up on Mittelstadt but adding a RW may work for both teams.
If the Penguins needed GK help and were totally dissatisfied with Kasperi, maybe Asplund and Anderson.
That would be a really interesting trade IMO.

EDIT, since Jason Karmanos has a history with the Penguins, I think there will be a trade between the two teams.
