Description
This team can contend with several moves that need to be made.

- Address the PK by signing depth forwards (ZAR, Motte). With the right personnel to shore up our struggles, we would comfortably be in a playoff spot right now. Also bring back aggresive pressuring.
- Another Top 4 Dman (Use Garland as the trade chip because I don't think he fits in well with the system)
- Sign another right handed centreman
- Clear out some cap (Dickinson and Poolman)
- Restock Abby by signing our prospects

IF we were to trade Miller, here are some trades I'd be intrigued about, but I'd prefer to just keep him:

- 1st, Vilardi, Grans
- 1st, Niemala, Robertson/Knies
- 1st, Helleson, Jost/Kaut/Bowers

Based on the Canucks asking price on Miller and if that is what is reported I dont think the leafs should target him as the price is too high to pay and I think there are better optioms out there like Domi.

I like the Garland trade idea. Good target.

In my opinion this team is no where near being a contender, they may be close to being a team that can contend for a playoff spot but I don't even think that is a guarantee.

The center depth is good, the RW is solid enough, the LW is terrible with two 3rd liners and two 4th liners. The defense is still likely not good enough. If Myers and Schenn were both able to sustain their current level of play for all of next season and Rathbone turns into a standout then the defense may possibly be good enough for a playoff team, this is not a contender defense though. As long as Demko stays healthy for the season and plays the large majority of games then goaltending is very good, but Martin is basically completely unproven at the NHL level, he was signed to be a 3rd stringer in the AHL this year. I'm not saying Martin shouldn't get a chance to back up Demko but if you want to be a contender or even a playoff team for that matter I would want to have someone with a proven record.

As for UFA signings I highly doubt Pavelski goes to Vancouver, if he's still playing at his age I'm guessing its because he wants a legit shot at competing for a cup, something that this team would not be able to provide. When it comes to the PK being improved, ZAR is no doubt a solid addition, however adding a center for the PK who excels in the face off dot would also be a welcomed addition.

For me personally, this team needs a serious overhaul. There are some really good pieces in place and if the team sold their aging assets at top value who wont be around when this team is finally able to compete, then they may have enough youthful depth on cheaper ECL's so that this team would have a legit shot at competing in 2-4 years( depending on if they target picks or already developed prospects/young players in trades).
This team has been so focused on trying to make the playoffs the last 8 years that they have failed miserably at adding enough youth and creating enough cap space to contend. If they had of bitten the bullet even 3-4 years ago we are likely in a completely different, and better, state than we currently are. I could care less about consistently making the playoffs as a 6-8 seed and being out in the first 1-2 rounds every year, I want a cup.

Yet another week starts with "Insert Team Here" trading for Zub.

It must be Ottawa's immense depth on RD that is causing this.

We have another RD that you might be interested in, his name also starts with Z...

The proposal is fair in value though but yeah, Ottawa can't afford to trade Zub, at least for now.
