Description
Not too sure about the Boston trade. Someone mentioned something like it to me once and I thought it sounded like a good idea. Everything else kinda makes sense in my head.

Preds fans - What's the deal with Myers? Not a fit with the team or is he just bad? I liked him in Philly and might be a reclamation project worth pursuing if he's not working in Nashville.

Really? He's been a healthy scratch a ton this year and his ice time is way down since his time in Philly

The preds had to redevelop Myers. He had a lot of bad habits that needed to be broken. He has worked a lot on them and his ice time is starting to increase. Not trading Myers for Zach. Myers will definitely get more and more playing time going forward

He has. The coaches didn’t like the habits he had picked up from Philly and have been working to redevelop him. His more recent games I think he’s looked really good.

We like his potential much more than the offers we’ve gotten for him. Since we don’t have a need to trade him, we wouldn’t sell him cheap as we still view him as a top 4 potential dman.

Parise doesn’t fit our team needs as he isn’t a top 6 winger and our bottom 6 is overcrowded.

All very insightful, thank you. Clearly I don’t watch/follow the Preds much, so I’m sure you understand how strange the situation looks from the outside, but that does all make a lot of sense

I think you're underselling the returns a bit here.

Edmonton gets a starting goalie & Cal at 50% retention, and the Islanders only get two 2nds for taking back Mike Smith and Kyle Turris? Turris is basically dead weight on their roster (22 games, 8:48 TOI, $1.65M cap hit), and getting rid of Mike Smith lets them roll out Varlamov and Stuart Skinner next year without having to worry about Skinner passing through waivers. I personally think you can get a better return just splitting Varlamov & Clutterbuck into two separate deals.

I also think the Mayfield deal is a little light - Boston doesn't capital-n Need help on RD with McAvoy & Carlo in the lineup, so they probably wouldn't want to pay up, and getting back a disgruntled DeBrusk and a 2nd while also giving up a 4th feels like they lose the deal. JDB might turn it around, but I don't think getting another middle-6 guy making a decent sized cap hit makes the Isles a necessarily better team.

I do like what you're doing in general though - using that cap space the Isles created earlier this season to leverage against contenders needing to maneuver around the cap. I just think you can get more bang for your buck doing it.

Yeh it’s had me scratching my head from time to time as well as Myers has looked good in his more recent chances. I like Myers more than benning and think Myers has a higher ceiling than Carrier.

Situation reminds me of when we got dubnyk from Edmonton. Dubnyk had some really bad habits the staff thought needed to be broken. Unfortunately, we gave up on him too early and he ended up becoming a pretty good goalie again.
