Depending on the direction the new GM wants to take, that’s a good offer for Murphy so I suspect Hawks take that.

Tampa doesn't consider that, they are not rebuilding.

Hawks just signed Murphy to an extension, a late 1st seems very underwhelming in return for what he provides

Johnson would be ready to step into an NHL role by the trade (2023). First gives them flexibility, Cernak can demand a big contract that could be tough for TBL to fit. I agree Cernak is valuable though and may require more than a 1st and B+ prospect.

Tampa has no interest in becoming worse. Cap will go up and they will have space. Cernak won't get much more of a raise than Carlo got. Simply put, its just a really easy no for them when evaluating team goals

So TB trades away their best player at their weakest position for futures at their absolutely best position?this makes sense to you? Who is Johnson taking time from Hedman, McDonagh, Sergachev?. Of the non NMC's Cernak is least likely to go.

Sheesh. Sorry I'm not a Bolts fan and know the ins and outs. This is just a casual little thought experiment. Are you always this angry?

Not angry just explaining why this trade wouldn't work from TB pov . You always so ultra sensitive?

This is the 2022 1st round pick which is currently #6OA. If someone is gonna offer me that then bye bye Murphy.

My bad I thought it was Buffalo’s 1st. Still…a first for Murphy is a good deal.

Yes but on a team spinning it’s tires. They’ve tried really hard to patch holes to retool and even if you eliminate the beginning 1-9-2 they’re still not a playoff team. They’re closer but they’re not there. On paper this team should be doing so much more but together they don’t mesh well. So what’s the point of having a top 4 defenseman on a good contract on an outside the playoff picture team? Might as well get some value for him now and commit to a rebuild.

I keep hearing a rental of Chairot will get a 1.Murphy with 4x4.4 top pair RHS gets much more

I’m not convinced Murphy is a top pair D. He’s second pair RD. In an organization not going anywhere and already has a #1 RD locked up for 8 more years (*shudders*) and a total of 12 D prospects with NHL bottom 4 potential at varying stages of development and literally 1 actual offensive prospect, if I’m rebuilding I don’t need Murphy. I need picks and prospects to fill my offensive depth.

He didn’t come off as angry at all

It’s quite nonsensical for you to think Tampa would trade a guy who plays on their top pair for “futures”
Tampa is on “win now” mode
And there’s other guys they can/will dump to figure out their Cap- just like they do EVERY YEAR

And u don’t have to be an expert on Tampa to figure that out
It’s VERY obvious
