The thing with Stankoven that makes him very important to Dallas is his offensive upside.

Except Johnston I think he’s our best prospect when it comes to offensive upside (Bourque better overall), and as a team where that’s incredibly rare, it’s really important.

Except Robertson, Hintz and maybe Gurianov, there’s not much to look for in the future, Stankoven is one of them that can potentially help.

And in this point in time it’s really obvious he shouldn’t of fallen to the 2nd round, he’s way better than Boucher and he went 10th.

Dellandrea isn’t peanuts, he’s a former 1st round pick that still has value just that he’s more of a two way forward.

Thank you for actually offering a logical and level observation which contributes to the conversation and can help refine an idea.
Don't see many of those responses in Montreal threads these days. grin

YES!!! Finally someone who gets it. I couldn’t of explained it better.

I'm not mad at other Habs fans for wanting the new shiny toy but Ty fits it for Montreal and GMs -should- care more about AHL numbers than WHL ones. He isn't showing top line upside anymore but that's not what we'll get for Petry anyways and Suzuki is already tagged as the top guy for on the long run. A solid middle six center that can play in all situations (PK, PP, Even strengh) would be great especially if they're looking to trade Dvorak out in a couple of years down the line, add the pick and I'd **** my pants for this return.

Ty is much further in his development than others. Check
He's a blue collar 200 way right handed center. Check
He is signed and should be cheap to re-sign next year (Bridge). Check
Fell out of favor in Dallas and by doing so became expandable for a win now trade. Check

I've already made an AGM Dellandrea, Faksa (Brought up by a Dallas fan for cap reason), 2023 2nd for Petry. Montreal management stated they'd target good prospects that fell down the depth chart much more than just picks and Ty fits a need in Montreal, he isn't playing bad but simply got surpassed by more recent picks like Bourque, Johnston and Stanky.

He has greatly outperformed his 2nd rounder status AND has surpassed other high draft capita by doing so.

I'll do you one better. I had Petry for Faksa and Stranges.
Yes, I think Petry is worth more. However, he has put management in a bind by all but asking for a trade, to an American team, and offering doubt with his performance. Not that I blame him for the circumstances and how they have impacted his play, but the responsibility is now on him to focus on his performance and facilitate a move.
I'd be happy if either Dellandrea or the 2nd could be added to my proposal.
I didn't include Dellandrea originally because he'd replace Faksa, and while Stranges is a less certain prospect, he fits into some of what Hughes stated he is looking for.

if PIT moves zucker out, they aren't taking bad cap back. That's just spinning tires.

Dallas declines. You’re not getting a significant asset like Stankoven for Petry. I know what Montreal WANTS for Petry, but he’s done nothing this year to show he’s worth anything close to that value.

Yeah, Dallas would be silly to do that. Stankoven has the 8th highest u-19 PPG in the WHL since 2001-02

I'd trade Boucher for Stankoven in a heartbeat and I think Sens drafting is usually among the top in the NHL and basically the only reason the Sens have a bright future.

So he was amazing for 4 seasons in a row, have the worse Coach in NHL history, have family issues right now (they are in the U.S) plays for the worse team in NHL right now so he is having a bad 40 games stretch (the whole team outside Lehkonen & Romanov) so he lost all is value … but since St-Louis came he is turning is game, so if he has a good 2nd half of the season it is really realistic or he might go for more. Pacioretty had a horrid last year with MTL and went for Suzuki + Tatar + 2nd RD pick …

Pacioretty wasn't 34 years old though and Petry before 2018 has never been anything special. Some players have short peaks. Pacioretty is a whole different level career wise
