He is going to say he wouldn't trade anything for Chiarot or something like only a 3rd or 4th. Fans want Chirot types of players but don't want to pay fair prices for them

Of all the LD on the market, Chiarot is the worst, yet Montreal fans think he's worth a good prospect or pick. He's not. Worth maybe a 2nd and 3rd rounder/low tier prospect or depth player. If I'm the Blues the most I'd give up is a 2nd and maybe a Dickinson and even that is pushing it for me.

See these comments come so often on here it is ridiculous especially when main stream media pundits (the guys with actual knowledge and experience) being the ones suggesting his value is a 1st or a 1st +

Dude... that offer is a joke. A '21 1st rounder at a position of great need in the team's prospect pool whose value has shot up since summer for a couple months of a wildly overrated D-man who isn't better than what they already have. Seriously, guys. Be real.

No, they say that Montreal is asking for a 1st. Vive le difference. And let's not pretend these "insiders" aren't wrong constantly.

And are we also going to pretend there aren't several LDs available/soon to be available that are better than Chiarot?

(deep breath)

OMG I cannot wait for the TDL to pass, so we can dispense of this conversation once and for all.

Savard got a first and to add to that, it’s not that Chiarot is better than a lot of the other guys available, it’s that he doesn’t cost a lot in term of salary and that why he attractive to a team like St-Louis who doesn’t have a lot of cap space

(sigh)

Trade comps don't exist outside of fan/media discussions. Every situation is different, every year's market is different, every team's situation is different. And even if they did exist, you can't just cherry pick a bad trade and pretend that one is the gospel comp. Otherwise, I could sit here and say how every Blues trade should be one good prospect and a bunch of cap dumps for a 1C, Conn Smythe-level player. Or that every time we ship out a 2nd and a perpetually injured, wildly inconsistent 3rd liner, we get Buch. As for Savard, he had a better portfolio than Chiarot does AND he was traded in a seller's market. This year, it is very much a buyer's market. That's all just for starters.

Now to the Blues. Army does not trade 1sts for rentals. He did once, long ago, and got burned. Not happening. And certainly not for a bad one. And Bolduc is now worth more than he was when picked as a 1st last summer. And at the same time, there are more than a few LD options that should be available that make less, are younger, have more term AND are better than Chiarot.

Ya know, you guys complain that everyone undervalues your players. I am sorry, but that is not the dynamic taking over these AGMs on a daily basis. Does it happen sometimes? Sure. But with all the wild overvaluing continually done by Habs fans the last few months, it's hard to even notice those instances.

Long story short: Army is NOT handing Montreal Bolduc for Chiarot. He's not giving them a 1st and prospect. He's probably not even calling, to be honest.

Those in the mainstream get a lot, in fact most things wrong. It shouldn't be surprising. Chiarot is a number 4 guy at best. Unless a team is truly desperate, they're not getting a top prospect and a 1st+.

I totally doubt we get a top prospect and a 1st but either one is definitely possible. Everyone thinks there are better LD available than Chiarot, truth be told there really is not. Chychrun, Braun and Giordano are the top 3 LD rumored to be available and there are as many as 7-10 teams looking for a LD Chychrun is definitely miles ahead of the others and Gio will cost the most and has the highest cap hit but is also older and slowing down. Chiarot is the best option for cap strapped teams and the plan B for those who miss out on Gio and Chychrun.

You also forgot Hampus. Lindholm and there is some speculation Graves could also be available. Both are far better than Chiarot

Lindholm won't be moved until the offseason as the Ducks are still in the playoff chase and would use him as their own rental for the playoff push. Graves is likely extended but even if he becomes available that still leaves 4-7 teams where Chiarot is still their best or cheapest option.

Lindholm is a UFA at the end of season and Ducks have no shot at making to the cup finals. They'll sell to get more assets
