Quoting: Minimont
Savard got a first and to add to that, it’s not that Chiarot is better than a lot of the other guys available, it’s that he doesn’t cost a lot in term of salary and that why he attractive to a team like St-Louis who doesn’t have a lot of cap space
(sigh)
Trade comps don't exist outside of fan/media discussions. Every situation is different, every year's market is different, every team's situation is different. And even if they did exist, you can't just cherry pick a bad trade and pretend that one is the gospel comp. Otherwise, I could sit here and say how every Blues trade should be one good prospect and a bunch of cap dumps for a 1C, Conn Smythe-level player. Or that every time we ship out a 2nd and a perpetually injured, wildly inconsistent 3rd liner, we get Buch. As for Savard, he had a better portfolio than Chiarot does AND he was traded in a seller's market. This year, it is very much a buyer's market. That's all just for starters.
Now to the Blues. Army does not trade 1sts for rentals. He did once, long ago, and got burned. Not happening. And certainly not for a bad one. And Bolduc is now worth more than he was when picked as a 1st last summer. And at the same time, there are more than a few LD options that should be available that make less, are younger, have more term AND are better than Chiarot.
Ya know, you guys complain that everyone undervalues your players. I am sorry, but that is not the dynamic taking over these AGMs on a daily basis. Does it happen sometimes? Sure. But with all the wild overvaluing continually done by Habs fans the last few months, it's hard to even notice those instances.
Long story short: Army is NOT handing Montreal Bolduc for Chiarot. He's not giving them a 1st and prospect. He's probably not even calling, to be honest.
