I don’t doubt a third being possible second seems like a stretch if Philly gets those types of offers good on them take it. I just can’t justify it in this case simply because it’s just for insurance plan and hope is he’s in the press box more often then on the ice.
I think you're also looking at where in the round the pick is, whether theres retention...obviosuly Braun is acquired by a playoff bound club, so the pick, even a 2nd is probably around 50th overall or lower, then with retention costs pretty close to league minimum.
Hes a solid RD vet, which the market is high on, he'd be just 900k with retention, presently playing 20 minutes a night. For a team looking for a quality 3rd pair RD and PK guy hes a pretty solid pickup.
So the market is high for RD and the pick acquired if likely low round and with retention hes easy to fit under cap. Then look at the market for playoff bound clubs who would like a solid 3rd pair RD or a really good 7th: its arguable, but there could be at least 12 clubs who would like Braun and would make an offer, especially 3rds (which woulkd be in the 80th overall or lower range), and if thats the case, its likely the buyer is the one who offers a 2nd or a 3rd and more (a 5th?)
