At the same time, Detroit would never do this. Not looking for 25+ middle-6 guys at this point in time, and Berggren is lighting up the AHL and fits our timeline. Hard pass from Stevie Y

I think the sharks deal is favoring SJS over PIT.
Labanc has a lot of talent but had a bad bad year this year.
and Merkley is looking good in his few stints this year but both combined is still lite for Kap.
I think the sharks would have to add a 2 nd to make that fair.
but then Inthink the sharks decline since we should be selling at the deadline not buying.

You clearly have no idea who Berggren is, and think he's some C-list long-shot prospect. In reality, this trade is awful for Detroit. We have no use for Heinen, he's having a good year, but he's a dime a dozen middle 6 winger, and we have enough of those. I like Pettersson, but not at the expense of a top NHL prospect in Berggren. Pettersson for a 3rd.

Pettersson is a legit 2nd pairing dman signed to a reasonable cap-hit and Heinen is a solid 3rd winger who can toggle in the top-six when needed. Those two parts for a good prospect is not a good deal, sorry. You are way off base. Terrible asset management.

What does that have to do with anything? A bad trade today is still a bad trade in two months. This may be a very good prospect, but it's not like Pettersson is some asset with meh value. He's still a younger solid 2nd pairing dman and that has good value. Depending on the market you could argue anywhere form a 3rd to a 2nd + decent prospect.

Heinen may not have a ton of value, but I'd say a 3rd is fair for his RFA rights. He won't be expensive to qualify and is proving to be a good third line forward capable of being a utility player who can slot all over the lineup.

Giving both of those up for a good prospect and depth dman? No thanks.

Yeah well it's not much better for Detroit either so we agree on that much. Oesterle is a local Detroit kid and Berggren is tearing it up in the AHL so that deal itn't happening and besides we don't need Pettersson he's not an upgrade over the LD we've in the pipeline.

Chalk it up to a poor fit for both sides.
