That's a good package for just Giroux, Braun is going to net a 2nd on his own though. Also, the standard for a 3rd team coming in to retain 50 percent is a 4th round pick.

Agree with other posters, Braun alone probably nets a 2nd, and maybe a tad more. Mikheyev is a bottom 6 forward and an expiring UFA, he offers little and Dermott is a nice 3rd pairing/7th dman (hes not really a crease clearer/doesn;t produce offensively and after 5 seasons in NHL he is what he is a borsderline NHL dman), so he doesn;t have much value in this.

Toronto probably adds a top prospect to this like Amirov.

There are 16 teams going to the playoffs and not all need defenceman and most contenders are already tight against the cap. I am not sure there are 8 teams in need of defenceman who have space to add. It's going to be a buyer's market. I don't think every defenceman getting high picks for return. Braun may go for less than a 2nd if the demand falls off and you want to recoup an asset you'll likely be accepting a 3rd for him.

I think it'll be a buyers market for forwards, but a seller's market for defensemen. Braun is on a really affordable deal and puts up solid numbers too. There just aren’t many quality defensemen available this year.

There is easily 12 defenceman on the block right now and likely 8 teams with enough space to add players. The math says a buyer's market.

What 12 defencemen? Im sure there are 3rd pairing guys that are available too but in terms of guys who can play top 4 minutes on a contender, that number is far lower.

Braun is a 3rd pair defender. He may not even make some teams. He's definitely 3rd pair in TO and that's if he outplays Liljegren who's looked pretty good.

Giroux isn't the type of forward the leafs need, they have more then enough guys that don't hit or go in the corners. They need a forward with size that hits and can win battles in the corners to get the puck to the big 4.

Giroux commanders a lot more. You’d probably have to add Amirov for the Flyers to consider that and Giroux also isn’t resigning for $2 million
