Why do the Devils need a young low paid dman?
They already have Graves, Siegenthaler, and Smith on the left side. With Bahl, Mukhamudullin, and Hughes coming up soon. So no need or want for Dermott
Bastian is extremely important for the Devils special teams. They went from bottom 3 PP without Bastian to top 10 since Bastian joined the powerplay

Thanks but no thanks. Nate Bastian has been playing quite well for us. And I’m sure there will be more fitting suitors for Dermott.

Going with a six man NHL roster isn't practical. Dermot certainly isn't blocked on the Leafs roster.

On top of the PP impact & outside of Nico, it's possible Bastian is the best defensive forward on the team right now. May not be saying much on this version of NJD, but the kid contributes in many ways. Gotta keep him for now

I think McLeod is slightly more impactful defensively but Bastian is definitely top 3

Hawks aren't going to want to take on Mrazek's cap hit for a backup goalie. I get your overpaying a late 2nd for Khaira but a late 2nd isn't worth it for the Hawks
