Idk that they would be honestly, and for sure without retention on KO. Something isn’t right with Monahan. Not saying buffalo’s pieces are good, but Cags and Pitluck are washes imo. Then it’s Monahan for Girgs and KO. KO is a good locker room guy, is decent enough offensively and good defensively.

It's basically a bunch of overpaid 4th liners for a top 6 C. Monahan paired with some of our offensive producers could be deadly.

Okposo and GIrgensons are probably gone at some point anyway with the influx of forwards and needed cap space for these young kids coming up + draft picks.

Except Monahan is NOT a “top6” quality center anymore
He hasn’t played to that level in 4 years

In his last 83games (this season and last), he has a total of 44pts

Seems like you’re remembering what he once was,
and not what he now is -and has been- for the last 3 seasons now

It's pretty fair to assume a trade involving career 4th liners with a potential in a reemerging top 6 C is a deal worth taking. Not to mention the fact those are vets who will be sacrificed for the youth anyway.

Monahan can be dealt for than any of those 3 in a futures return as well.

Okposo is out producing Monahan on the scoresheet this year,
AND plays an important defensive & leadership role

Girgs & Okposo wear letters on this team,
and are the hub of the leadership helping these kids develop

There’s no reason to think Monahan will have a resurgence after 3 crappy years in a row
And we aren’t gonna get any kind of legit futures for him if we try to move him at some point….
Bc if he doesn’t work out, then his value will sink even lower

Is Okposo or Girgensons going to be sold high? I get the impression they will be driven till the end of their deals. I don't see the benefit there if you can take a chance on a better piece.

Ok….. but Monahan is a 3C at this point
And again, after 3 seasons of 45ish point production,
there’s just no reason anymore to think he’ll bounce back
So frankly, we aren’t really getting anything “better”
And like i said before,
Okposo is out producing him anyways

If we wanna “sell high” on Okposo & Girgs at some point,
I’d rather just have picks/prospects
But since i doubt we would be able to get much for them,
it’s probably better to just keep them here for the leadership and to play the tough roles they do defensively & shelter the talented youth we have from having to cover those roles too soon

If someone wants to give us a 2nd round pick for either….
then ok, that makes more sense to me
I just doubt we could get that

He’s not though. Drop the KO retention, and maybe it would be a deal. With the retention you’ve made Monahan effectively a 9M player for next season (I know it doesn’t actually work that way, but my brain can’t switch that off).

Right now, I would be hesitant to bring in Monahan as that could stunt the development of others just to get him minutes. Just not a good fit, even if hoping for a bounce back year

Great conversation, none of us can predict the future but we can look at the past to give us a clue.
Prior to this season Sean was playing with Gaudreau up to 70% of the time.
Now he is paired with Pitlick, Dube, Lucic, Lewis, Richardson who have a total of 17 goals among them YTD, contrast that with Gaudreau who has 15 on his own.
Add in that his ice time has been reduced every year since 2017-'18 from 19:01 19;03 18:06, 17:41 to 14:43 this year.
So inferior line mates coupled with a 25% reduction in his ice time has certainly handcuffed his offensive output (does this sound like Skinner?)
Those are certainly factors to consider why he could easily rebound in Buffalo.
No onto the trade, Over all IMO the trade favors Calgary even if Girgensons was excluded as Calgary is saving $3,000,000 while getting a player who could replace Sean and is a solid locker room guy.
On the other hand I think management will show respect to Okposo and not trade him.
He moved his family here when he was traded and silently suffered through 2 years of fourth line minutes playing for Krueger

Girgensons and Okposo should not be considered fourth line players this year.
They are both on pace to 17 goals. and each have as many goals as top line forwards as Suzuki, Kane and Hall.
Only 107 forwards have more goals than they YTD.

I think Monahan would be a good player to pick up, management may not want to move Okposo.
If Calgary was considering this and Buffalo was considering trading Okposo, then take Girgensons out of the deal.
Alternatively, trade Hinostroza for Monahan and Pitlick, as he has more goals than Monahan and Pitlick combined and this would save Calgary nearly $7,000,000 salary.

Bottom line, getting Monahan would be a great move, Okposo may take a home town contract in two years and retire a Sabre.

Well that is my tome for the day.
