Oilers get:
Kane, Oilers gamble he can evade any off ice disturbances and not be a locker room disturbance. 24.5 Mil cap over 3.5 years.
Bonino, aging C but still PK savy and defensivly sound. cap hit 3 Mil over 1.5 years.
Sharks get:
Ryan, full on cap dump has zero value. 1.875 mil over 1.5 years.
Kassian 3rd line RW with neg value. 8 mil over 2.5 years.
klefbom Solid LD player who would be great.... if not hurt. likely only getting 1 year if he does come back and after 2 years off not sure what we get. 6.25 Mil over 1.5 years.
Barrie Offensive RD with no skill in the defensive zone, or a poor mans Karlsson. 11.25 Mil over 2.5 years.
Keith solid D man but over the hill and not the player he once was. full cap hit 8.307 Mil over 1.5 years.
Benson cheap unimpressive LW likely not playing in our lineup. cap hit 375K 1/2 year
2022 2nd
2023 5th.
Oilers take on 27.5 mil get a 4C and a top line LW albeit with extensive issues and could end badly and a viable bottom 6 guy.
Sharks cap hit 36.425 get a neg value bottom 6 RW, 2 neg value top 4 D and an injured solid top 4 D who may never play again, or at the same level he was when he signed the contract. and 2 throw in AHL tweeners.

to take on the extra 9 mil in cap we are given a 2nd and a 5th.
if this is best case scenario, sharks would likely just buy out Kane rather than take on all this to rid ourselves of him. or trade him 50% retained for little or no value in return.

keith isnt going anywhere. I dont think edmonton's leadership group is strong enough to take on the personality of Kane. Although with the oilers owning the casino in rogers place Evander would essentially be playing for free hahaha!

Here's my take on the current assets in this AGM:

- Kassian and Barrie would be valuable additions. Kassian is overpaid for his role, but he's a good veteran presence and he can be a locker room mentor like Bonino is for our youngsters. Barrie is a defensive liability, but in this situation, we may end up losing Burns in a separate trade during TDL and Barrie would be a fit for our offense-heavy D at a lower cap hit to boot.
- Keith is over the hill but he only has 1.5 years left in his deal. The buyout we would have used for Kane could be used for Vlasic, so he'd fill in for 3rd line duty and serve as a mentor for guys like Merkley and Kniazev. He does have an NMC though, so perhaps 2023 2nd or 3rd could suffice in his place if he doesn't want to waive.
- Benson is a mediocre player but at least he's cheap and out of contract at the end of this year. He can rotate tween the 4th line or the taxi squad as needed.
- Klefbom would provide LTIR relief for the Sharks. He has 1.5 years left in his deal and all signs point to his career being finished so we could treat his contract the same way as Tampa is doing with Seabrook's contract.
- Ryan has become a liability at the NHL level and it'd be likely that he along with Vlasic would be our buyouts at the end of the season.

The main challenge is whether we want to swallow $9M in cap to get rid of full-fat Evander. The good news is that most of these players would be out of contract by 2023, and at that point, we'd have more than enough prospects to take their place and start forming a young, competitive and inexpensive team. I could see why other Sharks fans here would decline, but this isn't the worst idea I've heard re: getting rid of Evander.

I would say so.
doing this forces us to let Hertl go and move better players till these contracts are done, force us into a basement dweller situation for the next 4 years.

you make a lot of sense and it makes it hard to disagree.
there are a lit of if's here.
If we are legit going into full on rebuild mode then the contracts coming bac make little to no difference in the next few years.
If we trade Burns then this works better
If Klefbom is in fact done and has no intention of playing next year.

I agree Keith would not be part of this as he would block going to a rebuilding team over a cup contender. and to be honest if Keith is not part this looks better for the sharks.

If I didn't have to worry about ticket sales and fan base or an owner I would consider this trade.
Trade Burns to a contender for whatever I could get
Deal Hertl for the biggest return I could get
Move all the other pieces I don't see here in 3-4 years I.E. Balcers Nieto Cogliano Middleton Labanc and posibly Knyzhov and Barabanov, thought Knyzhov and Barabanov i would like to hold onto if posible.

Klefbom on LTIR only helps you of you are at the cap and if there is a rebuild they wont be.
Based on this year I used to think SJ could never tear it down for ticket sales but the season ticket base is under 10k and the contracts they had the Season Ticket holders sign start ending at the end of the 23 season. No reason to renew with tickets selling less than face. i think ticket sales for next year arent as much of a factor.

There is truth to what you are saying, however I feel because of the point you posted the sharks will need to have a few "splashy" signings and pick ups in FA and the draft in order to entice people back into the stands. a tear down or trade of Hertl will hurt the team's season ticket sales.
I expect them to make Hertl signing happen sometime soon, I expect them to make some deals to free up cap space and move excess baggage (Kane). they will probably end up with a top 10 pick and hopefully get someone flashy to encourage season ticket holders (Brad Lambert fingers crossed) sign Bordeleau add a few FA and I would expect a more competitive and skilled team next year that will entice more single game ticket sales and bring in more season ticket sales for the 23/24 season when they will start looking more like a playoff team.
with all the Issues with Googles new campus and the problems it is creating for the sharks and parking I would expect Google to but a few suites and give the sharks incentive to let them proceed with their campus next year and for the next few years. we just need to have a little patience with the sharks they are dealing with the fallout from them trying to keep us competitive through that last window.

changes everything. Kane's prooly gonna go on a 1 year deal with a contender for a reasonable cap hit, meanwhile the Sharks get freedom with cap. Prolly tank 1 year at most, although a deep tank in 22/23 and a top 5 pick would really help them

23 draft should be strong but if you are tanking you should trade hertl now

this is a hard decision.
i agree with you both though. i guess it just depends on how much Hertl will cost vs how long a term he wants and how much teams are willing to offer up.
if we can get say… a 22 1st and Schneider from NYR or the Oilers 22 1st and Holloway. the sharks should do the deal. if the trade offers are underwhelming and Hertl is willing to do like a 8.25 for 4-5 years then the sharks should jump on that.

I love hertl also but lets face it Hertl time frame is not aligned to when the sharks will be competitive again

KANE is gonna be a TIK-TOK/p*rn star/30-for-30 hero ala. Ant-Brown & his hero Mayweather & not an NHL-playoff star in 2022 [period].
