Description
NOTES:

- Oilers have lost 10 straight with Tippet behind the bench. There really hasn't been improvement from game to game basis either. Tippet continues to give the bottom 6 the short end of the stick making the top 6 play an absurd amount. To add on, Tippet for some reason LOVES Barrie and Keith and gives them a lot of ice time which hurt the oilers defensively. We all know that these two dmen can thrive in sheltered minutes (15-18 a night). Tippet praises the work of his vetrans but yet doesn't call out their mistakes and picks on the younger guys and goalies (destroying their confidence). If you need proof you can see his post game interview against the rangers last game and a more recent interview from today I think where he praises Keith's leadership (a man who was part of the Blackhawks sexual assault team). And just for the cherry on top, in Samorukov's NHL debut, he got walked twice for goals against and Tippet benched him FOR THE WHOLE GAME. Samorukov saw about 2-3 minutes of ice time in the first then watched the rest of it. I understand benching him for half the period and maybe even the whole period but benching a young man in his first game in the show hinders his confidence. This to me is incompetent coaching.

Kassian has value to some NHL teams and there have been ongoing rumors since the offseason that he could be a piece that is moved. Hopefully he can get it going somewhere else. I added in a small sweetener in case of anything. note: doesn't have to be WPG, just to a team that has interest in him.

Kessel has been linked to the oilers and he'd give a huge boost to the third line as it looks like almost every game McLeod is the only one providing a spark on that line. The asking price is reportedly a mid round pick so this deal should do it with the salary retention.

Jets don’t need any goons

The knights have a lot of expiring contracts Rielly Smith, McNabb etc. But the problem is that they’re contending and with Eichel being close to return this could be a bit of a problem because they’ll need to make room for Eichel while trying to stay competitive up against the salary cap

Can't see Vegas trading McNabb, doubt they'd send him to a divisional rival if they did deal him.

Sounds like Pacioretty is going on LTIR, won't be surprised if Vegas won't have to move anyone.

That's why I made some of the trades not team specific like the kassian one. I'm not sure what team wants him but there are a few out there.

For McNabb I can see the knights trading him with the expiring contract and need for cap space. Even with patches on LTIR, they could benefit from moving him as they already have enough NHL defensemen in the system.

Vegas already has a solid d core without McNabb (Theodore, Pietrangelo, Martinez, Whitecloud, Coglan, Hague, Hutton). I can't really imagine Vegas re-signing him with all these guys who are younger are ready to play plus, they would need to pay him more which they can't afford. They're better off trading him away for something and letting one of their younger guys play on the bottom pair. I do see your point though in trading him to a divisional opponent. If Vegas isn't up to trade him to edm then a guy like Edler might make sense to fill that role.

What is it with Oilers fans and PTSD? They hate their own players and worship anyone outside the organization. It's unreal.

Look at the Barrie and the Klingberg deals. These guys are similar players (both ~average defensively and good offensively), yet Barrie nets just a 2nd while rental Klingberg gets a 1st + Savoie (worth a 1st) and some other pieces.

Mind boggling.

I get that but injuries happen and depth is needed for a team thats going for a cup like Vegas is, McNabb is a playoff type dman when the physical play ramps up, they won't want to lose that.
If they really need cap space I'm sure they'll move someone else before McNabb, like Dadonov.

Dadanov might be moved but I think he has a NTC or NMC which may make it harder for the knights to trade him.

Yeah that's true, I'm sure they'll max out the LTIR as much as they can before they trade anyone, they could also trade Carrier or Janmark for a bit of cap space.

In no world is Klingberg similar to Barrie. Despite how he's played this season, Klingberg is still miles better than him and if you replaced him with Barrie the oilers D would be seriously improved.

Here is Barrie's player chart from last season (keep in mind he has been a lot worse this season):

Klingberg plays on a better defensive team, that makes a big difference to his numbers. However, if you compare each player to his team over the last 3 seasons, Barrie has a +1.42 GF% rel while Klingberg is -5.63 GF% rel. Both allow more shots against relative to teammates - Barrie is worse but makes up for it by generating more shots for resulting in a better SF% rel too. Defensively you'll see that their rel numbers are very similar with regards to xGA and SCA too.

http://naturalstattrick.com/playercompare.php?fromseason=20192020&thruseason=20212022&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=r&p1=8475197&p2=8475906&loc=B&gpfilt=none&fd=&td=&tgp=410&lines=single

Offensively, however, Barrie has been much better than Klingberg, especially at 5v5 play. Both are top-notch PP guys.

Realistically they are close comparables. But somehow the guy with 2 more years on his contract is a throw away while the rental is worth two 1sts plus more. It's completely illogical.

This is definitely where the eye test needs to come in. I've watched almost every Oiler game this year and I can say that Barrie does have some solid games but when he is off, he's brutal and hurts the team. Barrie was solid offensively last year but that also has to do with the lack of strength in competition and finishing talent he had around him. If you focus on just this year with the analytics, Klingberg has been better than Barrie despite him having a tough year.

Barrie is certainly not needed on a team that can ice Makar.
I am among a small minority of Sabre fans who would like to see Barrie on the team next year.
Take on Turris to get Barrie for a 2023 2nd, seems to be a small price to pay.
Let's make a deal!
