Hayes turns 30 in May, and then you have 4 more years of a $7m+ 3C...

I'd avoid taking on the Hayes contract if it was for free, nevermind giving up assets for him

Foligno doesn't waive either

as a leafs fan, i'd love if this trade happened as it's horrible for boston. Hayes has a brutal contract and even if he were making only 4 mill idk if I'd give a first for him

obviously a typo
This idea that Hayes wouldn't be an upgrade as second center is just plain absurd.

How do you typo buying out a player? That’s actually a reasonably elaborate process.

I don’t think theres a single person that has said he wouldn’t be an upgrade. Coyle is playing better than Hayes this season, but i still think Hayes is better suited for a 2C duty today. But that’s being wildly simplistic.
Is Hayes a better option than the bruins currently have for 2C? Sure. Is he a good option for 2C? Probably not.

But lets pretend to just ignore that part, and move on to the next question.
Is the marginal upgrade provided by Kevin Hayes worth a first round pick? God no
Could that first round pick be used for a better upgrade? Absolutely.

But lets pretend we just ignore that one too.
Is taking on 5 years of soon to be 30, and already slowing down, kevin hayes for over $7M a good idea under any circumstances? God no.

Is kevin hayes worth a first round pick? Get outta here. Cap dump territory.

I can understand ignoring one question like that if the circumstances are right, but this is truly a horrific trade.

Boston's window is closing and closing fast. would I do that deal if Im Boston? Hell no! I also wouldn't have traded Robert Haag, a first round pick and a second round pick to get Rasmus ristolinen but that's what the Flyers paid to get him because they want to make the playoffs. It comes down to (as it always does) does a team want to gamble on their future to win now? Most teams will and do. And you go on and on and on about that 1st rd pick, remember when Boston had three consecutive 1st rd picks in a row plus relatively low first round picks? do you recall that? How did that work out? And that's why you trade that pick to get Hayes.

The whole, “ohhhhh but teams screw up first rounders so who cares,” is the stupidest line thats repeated on this site. It’s a first round pick. End of story.

Taking that gamble you referred to would be, “ya sure, we’ll take Kevin hayes off your hands for a 6th round pick.” A 1st is laughable. Notice how everyone on this thread has said what a horrible trade it is? Theres a reason for that. It would be like me making a Bruins ACGM with the Bruins offering debrusk and a 3rd for couturier. It’s just not something thats based in realism.

that's because as fans of a certain team you can't be objective. if a buffalo acgm proposed that trade with Philly involving Risto everyone including me would have blasted that person unmercifully. But that trade actually happened. Why? Because the flyers were desperate to reach the playoffs. Boston is trying to win a cup and trading a first rd pick isn't going to stop them. People like you will be praising the trade after they win the cup and then in two years when Hayes sucks you'll be back at it again.

Well, when toronto fans are coming here saying, “holy crap thats horrible for boston,” i think you should look internally. This is bad. Really bad. Bad for video games bad.

You said fans of certain teams can’t be objective. What pro bruins bias might a maple leafs fan have?

Get it? Please get it.
