I dont think they'll give up a top 10. If they make a trade at the TDL they'll likely go for another 1st and use that. Or, if they make a comeback and get into the 10-15 range I can see it happening.

They should be using this season as a retool on the fly.

Agreed, circa Bruins 2015-17, which trading for Tarasenko at the draft could help accomplish that.

They also brought in other players. Some signing, some minor trade deals. It wasn't like they only sold off people.

What they didn’t do was trade high picks for guys who’s deals were expiring soon. They traded guys who’s deals were expiring soon for high picks. Imagine the bruins now if they had traded the pick that turned into mcavoy for a year of a winger.

The difference here for the Islanders is that they still have the same club that's been insanely successful but for some reason isn't doing it this season. But unlike Boston, I dont think they need to change as much. Boston wasn't going anywhere in 15 or 16 so it made more sense to keep picks at the 10 to 20 level (Boston considered trading that pick for Shattenkirk from the Blues pending on either Blues give up their first or Shattenkirk resigns).
