Quoting: palhal
Not saying the Sabres should be signing expensive long term UFAs, but certainly there is room to sign a few quality guys to help the transition of the young guys. To leave 18m in cap space seems to be a slap in the face to paying fans.
I don't fully disagree with you, but I think most fans watched management botch the Eichel era where they didn't really put much thought into what they were doing, so them deciding to conserve money and play the young guys, and then spend their money on resigning them is good. They're most likely promoting an entire line from Rochester, plus adding two defensemen so there is no real room for veteran guys.
If they paid a lot for an experienced guy like Letang, who is a veteran and good and they could give him a lot for a season or two, then I'm okay with that. Same with a goalie, but at the forward, I don't want a guy like Giroux who will help now but doesn't do much for the future.
To me, I guess it isn't that they need to show me they care by throwing money at players. I care more now because they have a plan and are going all-in on that by the picks they make, the players they acquire, and the front office people they are bringing on board. It is nice to have a plan for once.
