I completely understand that line of thinking. The issue is that would not work for Calgary as they would have a LD logjam, kinda why I implied in the description I find it highly unlikely for Calgary to be in talks here. Kylington is probably worth a 1st right now in trade value. If he were to come with a good LT extension would that make more sense?

Can’t win for losing here lol, this is literally nearly on par with what Eichel got and everyone just immediately dismisses it like we should be paying through the nose for a defenseman that had inflated numbers last year and has sucked this year. He’s still a top tier guy, but his finishing was inflated last year and has fallen back to earth. And we’ve had enough recent changes of scenery to show that being good for a bit and then struggling on a bad team does not mean that you’re actually good (Ristolainen and OEL for example). I don’t think we should trade Coronato for anything, so if this is what Chychrun requires it’s probably already too much, we’ll be fine with just Kylington for cheaper and go after a forward upgrade.

I think you are underrating Chychrun a bit, he has been good for a few years now and is just playing on a really bad team this year. His numbers this year are way more of an anomaly than last years.

I see what you mean there, he is on a breakout year. I think ARI would want someone a little more proven (greater record of doing it) then Kylington. I just feel they would have a preference for a high pick over getting a player in return. Chychrun is on a really bad team this year, so looks worse but his cap and term and value to ARI I think would make you have to pay a little more.

I wouldn’t be against acquiring him of course, I think he’d be great with Tanev, but in reality he had one elite year, and like one or two okay years before that. OEL had more consistently excellent years on Arizona where he was in the Norris conversation. This isn’t a guy with a proven track record of elite status having a cold start, he’s been an okay guy who had one elite year carried by 100% finishing and G/60 (by jfresh’s chart) and is now having a down year. He’s not close to Eichel, an established superstar 1C with 5 years left. His price should be the Eichel deal minus a 1st.

Getting a high pick from a contending team is pretty unrealistic, thats why I put in Coronato (just picked 12th OA).

Yeah I would think their ask would look something like this. Whether they get that or not is a different thing. I like your offer, its def one of the better ones going but the reported ask is "massive" and teams have apparently not been put off by it.

I can understand that ask but it doesnt work for the Flames needs. A dman would have to go out. I chose Kylington because his next paycheck will be more than Valimaki's. Realistically Calagry is going to be looking to add scoring depth, not defensemen
