He was just traded for exactly a 3rd round pick lol - looking at Larsson and classifying his as "a pending UFA with 15 points on the season" noted you only look at box scores and that you're a casual who hadn't ever really watched him play. He's been one of the best defensive centers in hockey for the last 4 years, he's been hurt (he'd have more points if not for the injury) and when he did play this season was centering Crouse and Kessel showing he could keep up and help more skilled guys.

Johnston + Harley + a 1st. Bourque is a great prospect though so I'm not turning away from that. But Grushnikov and Dellandrea don't really move the needle.

You're not getting Larsson for less than a 3rd.

Yotes wouldn't consider it. Keller is 23 (so he fits the rebuild timeline), playing at an 35 goal 82 point pace (something the Yotes haven't had since Roenick), he's absolutely BELOVED in AZ and will likely be the next captain. It just isn't a fit, even if the value from Sjs is good.

Value isn't off, fair and good deal.. BUT this issue is that there is no chance Kessel waives his trade protection to go to Calgary. Flames are an amazing team and a legit cup contender, but I don't see a fit hockey wise with Phil and Sutter, also Phil just gave birth to his first child so I don't think he'd entertain border issues. Also, Phil and Canada aren't friends.

Girouxxx
Retaining on Giroux means that the Coyotes couldn't retain on Kessel or Stralman (since they are already retaining on OEL and Keumper, they only have 1 slot left) a 4th isn't enough incentive to do that and lose flexibility with other deals

Value isn't off but Nemeth has trade protection that he would likely not waive for AZ. Georgiev isn't a material upgrade over Vejmelka and also needs to be paid, so I don't think he's an AZ fit.
I think Chytil + a 3rd for Kessel is more realistic just given that Nemeth won't waive

A 3rd rounder isn't enough to take Kassian, and there wouldn't be any asset not even a 7th rounder going the other way.

Chychrun trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Leafsfan16</b></div><div>I feel like this what Arizona would ask for but I might have angry Kings fans attack me cuz I put Turcotte in this trade.</div></div>
Gotta disagree, this isn't enough for Chychrun. Maata is only in there for cap, he has no value. Grundström is older than Chychrun and is a fringe NHL player he has little to no value. So it's really just Turcotte and the 1st. The 1st isn't gonna be in the lottery.. so it's likely late teens 20s. Just not enough.
If you want Chychrun its gotta be the 1st + at least two of Turcotte, Kupari, ****emo, Helge, Vilardi. OR 1st + Clarke OR 1st + Kaliyev.
The offer as stated here isn't enough.

I think you could make a compelling argument that Boyd is better than each of Dewar, Bjugstad, Duhaime, and at least is offensively is better than Sturm (who is admittedly a much better overall player). He's also a righty, something the Wild don't have a ton of, and he plays center, so god forbid something to happen to Ek or Gaudreau he could fill those holes. At the end of the day he's a good player on a league minimum deal and there's been reports the Wild are interested.. idk seems fair to me

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xqb15a</b></div><div>Literally that doesn’t even start the conversation. Chychrun is better than Seth Jones and Girard is as good as Chychrun. You’re talking the equivalent of 3 1st rd picks for COL to be compelled to even listen. Girard is metrics monster, that produces 30pts season in season out without PP1 time, who is at most the 59th highest paid dman for the next half decade which is all in his 20’s. I mean it’s ridiculous that you would even think that starts the conversation. Epically bad. Awful. In fact the suggestion sucks.</div></div>
Then what should start the conversation that also makes sense for the Coyotes? You're not moving any of your own 1st rounders, you're not moving any of your top prospects. Chychrun doesn't make sense since that's a lateral move, so where would a conversation start?
Girard is great, specifically in transition, and he does a good job of producing primary points, so again I'm not suggesting he's bad or just making 5 foot passes to forwards and then doing nothing.. but he also struggles to defend the rush and in his own zone. He was neutralized significantly in the VGK series last year so he's not perfect.
Also the idea didn't start and end with the Yotes, the idea was good you get good value for Girard from the Yotes and in addition to that value use the freed up cap space to make other upgrades. Suggesting there isn't even a conversation to be had is pretty childish

That's fair, and I'm not suggesting Girard isn't terrific or in the Avs future plans. Just wanted to explore the idea of him since he has term and doesn't have trade protection as someone who the Coyotes could be interested in and Avs could you use to get cap space to chare Giroux etc

No I wouldn't and I totally see your point.. I was just thinking of it as a jumping off point. Like is there a framework here or a deal to be had with the idea that a team that already rolls out Makar - Toews - Byram really wouldn't "need" Girard.

The AZ trade is embarrassing. You think AZ would take a massive negative asset in Zucker without getting sweetener? Let alone ignoring the fact that AZ's GM has come out and publicly said Crouse isn't going anywhere. Regardless, Crouse on his own as an asset is worth a 1st round pick + a good prospect. Boyd on his own is worth a mid round pick. Kessel on his own is worth a mid round pick (higher with retention).
Pens fans need to wake up and realize that Zucker is a massive negative asset. Any trade with him is gonna look like the AZ trade with Philly for Ghost or Florida for Stralman.. where it's Zucker + prospect +a 2nd going out and literally nothing coming back

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>csick</b></div><div>Ridley Greig is going to be a top 6 forward . It’s close, probably needs a bit more but I’m also not the biggest Keller fan.</div></div>
It's not close.. Brannstrom is MASSIVE question mark who while pedigreed has shown little to nothing in the NHL he holds little to no value. White hasn't played in almost a year, and the last time he did play he was coming off back to back putrid seasons, he's a negative value asset. Greig is a nice prospect but that's all he is.. a prospect. The 2022 2nd is a good pick since it'll be in the low 30's but if the draft happened today and the lottery followed the standings the Coyotes already have 8 picks in the top 50 (#1, 30 (Canes), 32 (Avs), 34 (Flyers), 38 (NYI), 42 (SJS) and 46 (Van)) they don't need another 2nd rounder.
Here's what Clayton Keller is.. First, he's 45 points (21 goals) in 51 games this year that's a 33 goal 72 point pace, on a historically awful team. Second, He's 340 consecutive games played (availability is a great ability). 3rd. He's younger than Colin White FWIW so he fits an AZ rebuild timeline, and he's locked up with term on a contract he's now performing up to they have no incentive to trade him at all. It's a bad trade.

Exactly or maybe AZ lines up another immediate deal to get Nemeth somewhere he's happy with. I'm a Yotes fan and if this was the return on Kessel it'd think it was fair and I love Phil's fit with the Rangers too, I just don't know if Nemeth does it.. idk maybe if Drury and the coaching staff tell Nemeth he's been passed by Jones etc and he could at least play by going to AZ.
One other option too and I know it would sting since he was part of the Buch trade, but Sammy Blais was a Bill Armstrong draft pick in Stl and his 1.5 mil could help (if the Coyotes retain on Kessel) Kessel (50% retained) for Blais and lower pick (like a 3rd) could also work

Pens linked to two forwards
Kessel isn't going to Pitt, but putting that aside why would Arizona give up a pick in this? Kessel is better than Zucker for the rest of this season (even if Zucker was healthy) and then he's UFA unlike Zucker who has term.. so the Pens are clearing Zucker's cap for next year too. Also AZ is already retaining on OEL and Keumper so if they did with Kessel, he would be their last retention slot meaning they couldn't launder a player like Giroux or retain on anyone else, so you have to really make it worth their while to retain on Kessel. Kessel + A cheap depth forward like Christian Fischer for Zucker, 2022 2nd + either another pick or mid range prospect is more like it
