Description
I trust Friedman. If he says the coyotes are gauging the market for Chychrun, I buy it.

This offer probably wouldn’t be enough, but it’s a lot of value.

Reilly or Forbort for cap purposes, Arizona’s pick.

if they really are gauging the market for Chychrun, just punt that franchise into the ocean.
really would have no clue what they would want then, IMO if they try to move him they are flat poor and dont want any type of salary on their books. Probably Debrusk and his high QO dont really help their problems

Well, they should punt the franchise into the ocean.

They have to reach the cap floor. Debrusk and his QO should be exactly what they’re trying to target.

cap floor and salary are 2 different things, they can reach the cap floor while keeping actual dollars down, thats all my point was. If they are selling off guys I assume they want little financial real commitments as possible

they probably just end up flipping Debrusk anyways, whats the point of trading for a player of his age in the process of moving out Chychrun. they would be going into a dark long rebuild if they do this move, so guys in their mid 20s makes no sense for them

Well, that’s not exactly it. Chychrun doesn’t have a huge financial commitment. It’s the OEL concern. Great player, keep him, lose, ruin him, get nothing. Or, great young 23 year old, get the world for him. I would guess that’s the discussion going on in arizona. Debrusk isn’t going to get big PP and top six minutes in Boston, but he certainly could in arizona. Taking on guys like that, and hoping that with opportunity they can raise their stock is exactly what arizona should be doing. That said, he’s the third piece of this trade, so whatever.

Offer likely gets topped by many other teams, would you trade McAvoy for that return?

No, but:
1. The two players aren’t in the same stratosphere.
2. The bruins have no reason to trade mcavoy, the coyotes do have a reason apparently to trade chychrun
3. 9 years vs 4.

Don’t get why those two players would be brought up in the same sentence.

1. Chychrun is like 1 tier below McAvoy at max. Chychrun is an excellent 2-way defenseman and has been for a few years now
2. Boston doesn't, Arizona doesn't really either. Gauging the market does not mean reason to trade
3. Sure but cap hits are a thing too

I would rather mcavoy’s contractual status than chychruns. I think most would.

Arizona does have reason to move him. One being OEL. They waited, they ruined him, and he turned into a cap dump. His value will never be higher than it is now, and they’re unlikely to be finished with the rebuild while he’s still in town.

This is completely based on team roster and available cap space.

Chychrun isn't remotely near cap dump territory so I don't think OEL is a good example at all here.
I also don't think they are that far away at all either, Arizona has some really good prospects in their pool and A LOT of picks in an upcoming extremely deep draft. They could be competing in 2 years with how high they pick

When did i say Chychrun was near cap dump territory? I think you’re misunderstanding me.

OEL was a premier D, and the coyotes mismanaged the situation. Years and years playing for a horrible program diminished his value to the point of a cap dump. They may have learned from their mistakes. They should have traded OEL much much earlier, before he signed his UFA deal. It’s likely that they’ve realized they will most likely have to move Chychrun before his contract is up. See the point?

Also, those picks from this very deep draft aren’t likely to help in two years, they’re likely to help in 4-5 years. Guess who’s gone at that point? Chychrun.

Arizona's 1st this summer will 100% help next year, they can very easily afford to trade up from the 2nd round too. Not to mention the other stuff they will get from selling players like Kessel. I really don't think they are that far away.

They will also have an almost entirely different main roster next year as they have so many expiring contracts

Their top pick might. They’re about 15 players away from being good though. It’s a 5 year rebuild.

It’s just how the NHL works. When there’s a tear down, it’s usually a 5 year process. The playoffs aren’t an option over the next three years, and its probably more like four or five

But that's not what they did, they moved out all their older contracts and still have a vast majority of their young core.
