Description
Not sure if this makes sense, but just a thought I had in light of the McBain conversations that have been happening lately.

Also figured with the emergence of Rodrigues, PIT may entertain moving Carter for a decent futures package.

I think the value makes sense here, for both sides. One thing to consider is Carter has an NTC. But so does, Geno. If PIT is out at the deadline, I wonder if we could convince him to join for a cup run.

Oh I didn’t realize Carter had a no trade. That complicates this idea a bit. Probably entirely depends on PITs position come TDL.

Maybe he doesn’t? I thought I heard rumblings that Carter had to OK the move to PIT. But if we’re gonna do this, look at Geno. Stick him right in between Kap and Zucc.

He doesn’t show it on here, but could be a niche situation that I’m not aware of.

Geno definitely does and I think that trade is a lot more difficult to pull off than Carter. His cap is much greater, he’d cost quite a bit and he’d have to ok the move. I’m not even sure where to start on someone like him.

Let’s say say you get Geno to waive. Upgrade the 3rd to a 2nd and make it a conditional 1st if the Wild make the western conference finals and PIT retains half. It’s dependent on PIT being completely out of it but they desperately need to bring in assets. Geno is good but not worth Hertl, who is a 1st and maybe another piece.

Yeah a lot would need to fall in place, but it’s definitely something to keep an eye on. It does feel like a move of some sort will happen if the team keeps rolling. I just don’t know how big of a splash to expect.

I agree a splash is coming but I don’t think a move gets made without either BG or Evason 100% sure the player that comes in meshes with the vision. And I don’t think you bring in a Mid 6 guy unless it’s for very cheap. I’d honestly put my money on Fluery.

I'm not so sure about that. I'm thinking it'll be one of Miller, Horvat, Hertl or Pavelski. But it'll depend on how those teams look by the TDL.

The obvious thing is that you have to keep Fiala when bringing one of those guys in. If you can do that, I wonder what BG is willing to gamble. I think Pavs and Miller are the guys at the top of the list.

But I’m gonna stand by my position on Fleury. He’s proven he’s a playoff goalie and we cannot hesitate to make a goalie change once the postseason comes, and I don’t think the team is there with Kahk as the #2.

Interesting. Do you think if BG were to go out and get Fluery that he’d also get a rental center? Those two moves aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive for you are they?

No, I don’t. I think goalie is still the question mark. But if we are still a wagon by the TDL, I’d put a 1st on the table for Miller/Horvat and a 2nd for Pavs. I really think the market on Hertl is going to be very high, and I don’t think it’s a guarantee he gets moved at this point.

But if you have to make one move, you get Fleury.

For me, it's Miller.

I'm not worried about our goaltending as much as you are. Talbot was lights out last year for us against Vegas. He directly stole two of those games and wasn't the reason we lost in game 7. The Knights targeting our D-core was. They purposely knocked our best defenseman out of the game, roughed up our 2nd best and team captain, and knocked Suter into what I'm pretty sure was a mild concussion after cross-checkinging him into the goalpost face first. The only reason Suter stayed in that game at all was due to the fact we were already down to 5 defenseman.

If our D-core stayed intact, we'd have won that game.

I'm not convinced a better backup will make a difference. A top-six center pivot that will truly make us 4-lines deep can and will.

If we are really in it for this year, then the motto has to be “Porque no los dos?”

Depends on Kähkönen. He was solid his last two outings. Keep feeding him starts against the lower competition and utilize Talbot for the better teams and more important games, and that should help rebuild his confidence. If he does well, maybe consider a start against some stiffer competition. But see how he does first. If he doesn't pass the grade mark by the TDL then maybe Guerin should consider it. If the price is right. But if he's doing well, then just go for the center and save the assets.

Any interest in Giroux out of either of you?
