Description
Continuation of the original thread. That one has more info on trades.

Top 6 winger could be anyone from Forsberg - Smith - Bura - draft pick if we're lucky. Obviously price could change.

Taxi squad = prospects that could get reps in and replace the random players.

Detroit - need a 1B/2C. Neither Horvat or Larkin are top end 1Cs but having both is pretty solid centre depth. Especially with their talent on the wing. Can draft a replacement for Hronek while Myers is a stop gap. I've discussed this with Detroit fans and would be willing to only take one second back.

NJ - could use a sniping winger to complement their centre depth. Again, this seems to be a deal that NJ fans are somewhat ok with, depending on the conditions of the first.

Ninja edit to the OP: I think Myers should have 2 mil retained.

Detroit - OK, but they have Hronek, why do they want a worse d man and create a need for themselves to draft another one? I get Horvat. Not sure if Stevie Y is going to do a Benning and jump the rebuild too quickly.

Maybe with NJ. I just feel that Severson plays a big role on their blue line and is part of their plans going forward, as opposed to Subban, but.. don't think we want Subban.

Generally speaking I just feel that the blue line we have in Van is fundamentally broken and is going to take pain and patience to fix. I'm not sure there's any way to get there without at least a partial rebuild

respect that you talked to other teams fans though about the moves

I think a Severson for Boeser swap makes some sense. But here is the challenge:

it would likely happen after 2021-22 season, once the window to extend Severson opens.
At that point, Boeser likely has his extension in place.

So if it were an unsigned Severson (1 year rental) for recently extended Boeser...Devils would have to add.
If they both extend (or are open to reasonable extensions with new clubs), then it may be a match.

I agree the trade only works if both are willing to extend.

Maybe it would work to do the trade at the draft.

There would be less guess work about where NJ's pick ends up, Boeser could sign right away, and the Canucks could have an unofficial extension in place with Severson that goes official July 1 ( I think Chi did something similar with Jones)

I think that is the most plausible scenario.

Definitely have discussed this a bunch, I also think I was one of the first that offered up Hronek for Horvat. I think it all really depends on who we draft in the first round. If they teams drafts Jiricek or Semec with their first pick then Hronek could be viewed as expendable. If we get a good centre with our top pick then there wouldn't be any reason for this trade to happen. That's at least how i feel about it anyways. I don't want to give up Hronek but in order to get a good piece you have to give up a good piece. If we could trade for Horvat without giving up Hronek would be even better.

I was just going to write almost exactly this. If Det drafts a good C - no need for Bo. I'd they draft a good RD - trade from a position of strength.

Fair enough. Totally get that way of looking at it. I do believe that Hronek is young enough that he makes sense to stay with the team going into the competitive window. Drafting a young RD in the 10-20 range is not likely to yield someone capable of a large NHL load for at least a couple seasons, although Jiricek, for example, at least from what I've heard, is very talented. Same goes with a C.

If Detroit sees their competitive window as starting next year though, I suppose you could add Horvat and sign a depth RD. Interesting thoughts guys

Detroit is playing decent right now, but I don't think they expect to really compete for another 2 years. We have 1 LD signed for next year and maybe a rookie cracks the roster. Unless we resign Leddy, which is a good possibility, we are still pretty weak on defense. I don't expect our defense to be good enough to be pushing for a deep playoff run for at least two years. I have to say though that being in a playoff spot is nice, but watching some of those games we won, we were outplayed substantially in some and just held in by Ned.
