Why do I keep seeing Oilers fans posting about Keith retiring? From what I've seen, he seems to be playing pretty darn solid for them and he will be a playoff beast in the locker room and on the ice. But then again, I've only seen a few Oilers games.

Not much of a chance of either of these happening TBH.

What? Klefbom coming back, Keith retiring, or Keith being a playoff beast on the ice and in the locker room?

i believe keith could be good in the playoffs because of his intensity but Klefbom is not coming back and keith is not going to just retire.

Oh. Yeah. I don't think he will retire either. Klefbom though... I hope his career isn't over. I'm not exactly an oilers fan, but still that would suck for him.

From what i have heard klefboms shoulder is fixed to the point that he wont have pain but he can never play again. That is the reason he waited so long to get it fixed he was hoping he could make it a few more years before having the surgery.

i think Keith will, he didn't go to Edmonton because he likes the city, he did so he could be closer to his son. He will most likely retires at the end of the season, I think it's why we overpaid in the trade

I would not complain one bit if he did.

I think Keith has been a major upgrade over any of the players the Oilers deployed at 2LW last season. Its his cap hit that bothers me every time I play around with the Custom Roster Simulator. However, there is some perspective to be gained by looking at what it cost the Oilers to bring Tyson Barrie back and to sign Codi Ceci. In both cases, they saved money by providing term. With Broberg looking ready for full-time action next season, a top-4 LD on a four-year term would likely create problems in time.

Keith has previously stated he feels he can play well into his 40's, he isn't going to retire next summer. That's okay, I guess. Its possible that by February of 2023 Broberg will have pushed Keith to 3LD and the sage veteran will be able to play out his contract as we've seen Kris Russell play out his this season. To that end, the presence of Duncan Keith and Mike Smith next season may provide intangibles that benefit younger players. We are already witnessing a growth in confidence among Evan Bouchard, Stuart Skinner, Ryan McLeod, and even Philip Broberg, Markus Niemelainen, and Wild Bill Lagesson. Is it possible that the presence of Kris Russell, Duncan Keith, and Mike Smith may be contributing to that? An optimist might say yes.
