He means that the Avs would never take Price's contract. They have to re-sign MacKinnon, Kadri, Burakovsky, AND Nichuskin in the next couple of years. Not to mention that Byram needs a deal after his ELC expires. We're in a win-now state and I'd much rather have Johnson as an overpaid but still good 2nd pairing defenseman than I would a good but INCREDIBLY overpaid goaltender when the Avs already have Kuemper (who they'll hopefully re-sign).

You DO NOT need to pay to get rid of Price, he just carried Montreal to the SCF's FFS. There are GM's around the league drooling if Price became available. Users on CapFriendly allow their biases to play into their opinions. Look at the polls from the last 3 or 4 years where they polled players across the league, almost every year the one goalie that players say they want on their team or don't want to face in the playoffs is Price. Those are the opinions that matter, not Joe blow in his mamma's basement. GMs will pay for ANY player they feel will help them win the cup EVEN a 10.5 Mil 30 something goalie!

Yes, yes you do. If his contract was 1 or 2 years long, then sure, you could most certainly get a good return for him. This contract will be going until he's 38. He's only going to regress, so there's no way in hell you could justify making someone pay for a future liability unless you are proficient in mental gymnastics.

Keep in mind that you say the last "3 or 4 years", Price just turned 30 at that time and was still close to his B2B Vezina Seasons. I think anyone would be scared of Price back then, he WAS the Vasilevskiy of that time.

If you really think a excellent GM like Joe Sakic would pay for a future liability with a good current roster, you're out of your mind, ESPECIALLY with that cap hit.
