The Carolina trade is definitely a no. Lindholm has produced as well as Nuge lately and Faulk is an all star dman. Not sure why Carolina even wants to move him. He's cheap and a really good. Edmonton's 1st next eyar should be another late pick as they are getting better and better. I'm the biggest supporter of Nuge and actively defend him as still a good player but your overvaluing him by a landslide here. Even I know that.

It'll take more then a 3rd rounder to take Pouliot. If all it cost was a 3rd rounder to rid a team of 4M cap, almost every team would be jumping for joy. It'll take a lot more.

Eberle for Nelson could work. I don't see why on Earth Nelson would be playing on the 4th line though.

Also do this exact team for 18-19 and I guarantee you'll be over the cap. Plus Oshie will cost more then that. Easily gets more then what Lucic got from you guys.

I love those trades, but Nelson would be a very good 3C, so I think it would work better with Lindholm on the top line RW and then don't sign Oshie.

Edmonton needs to send more to Carolina imo. Signing oshie complicates the next offseason.

This right here; perfect! Oshie is gonna be too expensive with Connor needing a BIG raise

If we could make a three way trade where Eberle for Nelson gets a pick, and that pick gets thrown into the Carolina trade, it would be perfect for me!

Why do the fans of their favourite team that Vegas will be willingly to take a bad player on a bad contract and be so mesmerized by a third round pick.
Still leaves Vegas with 120m cap hit (at least) for a few years...but they will have 30 third round picks.

Agreed PalHal, it's painful to see all the time; just like when AGMs use a little buzz phrase to make their cap dump to Vegas sound appealing (great on PK, veteran presence, PP specialist, etc.).

But, to play the devil's advocate, won't Vegas be looking to gain futures to make playoffs in 2019-2020? The more picks the better if they can't get a potential impact NHLer. Here's an example (using the team I know best haha)

STL would love to lose Lehtera but Vegas doesn't want him.

Taking the offer of Lehtera and a 3rd might sound more appealing than taking, say, Jaskin). They likely can't trade Jaskin for anything better than the 3rd rd pick they would receive. Basically, each team is exposing players of different quality, so the compensation picks for deterrence should all be based on what they are protecting. Blues have little to protect, little to lose.

Other teams have different situations. Example: the Wild or the Ducks would have to give up a hell of a lot more than a 3rd because Vegas could get a much better return on the market (than Jaskin) if they grab Brodin/Dumba or Vatanen/Manson.
