The value doesn't seem too bad, but I think Anaheim would want a younger player than Barrie.

A pick would be needed to take Barrie's contract

The Oilers shouldn't trade him. And I'm pretty confident they won't

Shouldn’t but I assume that’s what the ducks would ask for

Ducks are in a playoff spot, greatly due to how well Gibson is playing. I think this would be a mistake on thier part, if you were going to trade your ace goaltender, get them out of your conference, or at the very least your division.

Don't think so. But you never know what Murray might ask for

That's the only problem I see, would have to convince them that Kosk is doing very well and maybe better with less Pressure and better defense

Come on, don't act like it's an albatross contract. It expires at age 32, and it's a pretty decent cap hit for what he brings to a team. He's a great powerplay specialist, and while his numbers may be a little inflated from playing in Edmonton, it's not like he's being carried by McDavid and Draisaitl. While he's not a shutdown defenseman or anything, with the right deployment he's a very positive asset to his team.

Gibson is such an amusingly controversial subject. Half of the schizophrenic Edmonton database wants him desperately, and half think that one year of Koskinen is better than six years of Gibson. Meanwhile, the Ducks fanbase is unanimous: we won't trade him within the division unless the return is substantially more than that.

The Ducks don't need a defenseman that can't play defense. Their PP is good this season and he isn't really needed there.

It's not a huge contract, but the Ducks need as much cap space as possible in 2023. They have to sign Terry, Zegras, Drysdale and Comtois all in the same summer. And PP is basically the only thing Barrie is good at. The Ducks power play is pretty good this season and I don't think he's needed. He doesn't play defense and I'd prefer to have someone like Manson who is at least somewhat capable at defense who can help the kids adjust to the NHL. The only reason Barrie isn't the Oilers' worst defenseman is because they traded for Keith.

I think it will take Holloway to get Gibson in division and drop Barrie and Manson. If i am moving Holloway though the ducks are taking on more cash pure and simple. You can hold me hostage for Gibson, but you are at least taking on Turris to even out money this year.

You're not wrong-Barrie takes more $hit than he deserves, but the Ducks already have Drysdale and Shatty playing similar roles right now. Barrie doesn't really make any sense as an add on.

It still doesn't really do it though. The value there is Holloway...the 1st is likely very late. Then it's Koskinen and Turris, who do absolutely nothing for Anaheim. Trading 6 years of Gibby in your own division is very stupid, especially if the return isn't absolutely overwhelming.

I like him off the ice, but he honestly seems to be playing just as poorly defensively this season as last season. No team that isn't in desperate need for power play goals should pay much for him

For sure. He's a 4th forward...His worst seasons statistically was in Toronto, because Babcock was obsessed with trying to use him as an actual defenceman.
