Description
Before CHI fans come hating..
I feel like POJ has been solid in his 2 games back and should be a regular.
Pettersson has been having a really good year, but he is the only moveable left dman we have right now. The main reasons I am moving him are to give POJ a spot and to create cap flexibility moving forward. I dont think he is a "cap dump". If people have been watching him play, they would see that he has been a solid top 4 player.
With this trade, we manage to bring back a fan favorite in Fleury and get a young prospect who doesnt really have a chance in Chicago because of the depth chart.
Chicago picks up a top 4 dman for their left side. After this season, the only top 4 guy on the left that is signed is McCabe. De Haan is a UFA, and then you have Stillman, Jones and Kalynuk working for the #6-7 spots. DeSmith and the 3rd are extra value.
I also kept the Zucker-Rodrigues-Kapanen line in tact because I thought that line was solid today. It was only one game, but I was impressed.

I’d pass personally. MP is just too much money for too long. Rather roll with Kalynuk and Stillman as LD in the bottom 4 and make a move at the deadline if we’re a contender.

I think of you change the pens pick to a 22’ second there might be something there. Who knows if toews/Kane are going to be around too much longer depending on the hawks situation. I can see moving on being an appealing option. If so the pettersson cap hit is reasonable plus having some experienced d men back there is nice with what is likely a young forward core in few years.

No way the pens do this. MAF has been terrible and so have the Hawks. There is no reason we should pay anything for him, much less a top 4 d on a solid contract, a backup goalie, and pick.

As a Hawks fan, I understand how/why PIT fans keep sending MP to the Hawks. The issue that PIT fans don't appreciate is that the Hawks need to develop some players in their own. McCabe is there for years. For better or worse. Kalynuk was the Hawks #1 LD last year and Caleb Jones looked good in camp. Riley Stillman SHOULD be their #1 LD imo. Physical as heck which Jones needs a partner that can help with that. Then you have the prospects that need NHL ice time like Beaudin, Phillips, Galves, Mitchell (rd) etc... there's just a log jam at LD. Picks are what they're looking for. Not guys like MP. How about just Joel Blomqvist?

Note, I didn't mention how good or not good MP is...because it really doesn't matter. The "hate" isn't about MP at all. It's that Hawks fans are upset we can't seem to develop any of the 7 other LD we currently have. Hopefully JC being fired helps

Adding to that, the Hawks don't have enough cap space going into the offseason as it stands, adding more will not happen unless the Hawks were to move Toews or Kane but that is highly unlikely.
