I'd be shocked if you're not a mil shy on both of Campbell and Rielly. Cal Petersen's deal is the floor for Campbell IMO, and Campbell has been a heck of a lot better than Petersen.

On Rielly, the AAV is lower with the full 8-year term. I'd suggest his open market value is 8.5m AAV x 7 years = $59.5m total. If the Leafs offer 7.25m x 8 years = $58m total I think that could work for both sides. I don't know if this is the right thing to do for the leafs long-term, but I think it's fair unless he has a monster season and playoffs.

Maybe on Rielly...My only argument would be that the LD UFA class this year is pretty much non-existent...Rielly, Hampus Lindholm and Klinberg are the only ones that really standout, with Rielly being the youngest of the 3, and best of the 3.

There really isn’t. I just don’t understand the concept of having a team that doesn’t work, and just trying to force the same combo back for another run at futility. It’s not like this team is coming off a cup run and are having a slow start. It hasn’t worked since the beginning. They’ve had no success. Why keep it the same?

That was not the intention of the post, and that should have been clear. The intention of the post was to question the logic behind keeping everything the same, despite the fact that the team, as constituted, is not successful. If you weren’t out looking for any sort of reason to get defensive, you might have gotten the gist of it.

yeah the point of this team wasn't "here's what they should do", it was more looking at the options. keeping everybody is an option. it's not impossible that they get their act together and then finally break through in the playoffs, which would lead towards this roster for next season. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's possible.

Imagine if fans treated all teams as maniacally as they do the leafs. They win 3 in a row and it's plan the parade time, they lose 4 in a row and it's time to rebuild. This is just silly. Boston lost 2 in a row, better trade everyone. They suck obviously
