What about Hague?
Agree with everything else you've done though... waive 1-2 of the depth F's and you have 2-3m to sign Hague on a 3-year bridge.

I think they move or buy out Dadanov before Brossiot... will give them some extra space for proper bridge contracts on their RFA's and maybe add a low cost vet

Holl and Dermott apparently on trade block
Yeah I think this makes sense, need to add higher pick / prospect for anaheim to accept though.
Maybe Holl + Dermott + 2nd + prospect (Kral or Hollowell).
I wouldn't be surprised if they got another team involved to double-retain on Manson for another pick too.

Vegas next year
It's not that bad... they can carry a 21-man roster and the cap is almost certainly going up by 1m.
They can move or buy-out Dadanov if needed. Sign Hague to 3-year bridge deal. 4th line of prospects and vets on min deals chasing a cup.

Leafs - with Rielly contract
Yeah I think Campbell will be looking for 15-20 mil on his next contract, maybe more if he has a big year. I feel like he might sign 3x4.5m now if you put it in front of him, or possibly a lower AAV on a longer term. Maybe 5x3.5m works for both sides?

offseason keeping core 4 and rielly
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CMcAvoy73</b></div><div>That was not the intention of the post, and that should have been clear. The intention of the post was to question the logic behind keeping everything the same, despite the fact that the team, as constituted, is not successful. If you weren’t out looking for any sort of reason to get defensive, you might have gotten the gist of it.</div></div>
yeah the point of this team wasn't "here's what they should do", it was more looking at the options. keeping everybody is an option. it's not impossible that they get their act together and then finally break through in the playoffs, which would lead towards this roster for next season. I'm not saying it's likely, but it's possible.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Lenny7</b></div><div>I'd be shocked if you're not a mil shy on both of Campbell and Rielly. Cal Petersen's deal is the floor for Campbell IMO, and Campbell has been a heck of a lot better than Petersen.</div></div>
Yeah maybe on Campbell, agree with the Petersen comp. I can see a world where he signs for less to stay though, especially if they give him this offer soon.
On Rielly, the AAV is lower with the full 8-year term. I'd suggest his open market value is 8.5m AAV x 7 years = $59.5m total. If the Leafs offer 7.25m x 8 years = $58m total I think that could work for both sides. I don't know if this is the right thing to do for the leafs long-term, but I think it's fair unless he has a monster season and playoffs.

New Look Leafs - Long Read
Agree with most of your thoughts, but I'd like to see them split up Marner/Matthews to start the season and give Nylander a long run at C on the 3rd line. Something like this:
Kerfoot - Matthews - Kase
Bunting - Tavares - Marner
Ritchie - Nylander - Spezza
Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev

tampa sneaks under cap
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pete</b></div><div>Hi winthecup, I'd rather say Tampa has had a luck in managing player contracts. Sooner or later they run into problem if their draft picks are not ready to replace Palat, Killorn or Stamkos who may not stay healthy throughout the season.</div></div>
Is it luck if they keep doing it though? They've got a pretty good track record of drafting and developing players and seem to have a good pipeline of 23-24-25 year-olds ready to step in and contribute. Seems like they're set up well to keep doing that and contending regularly.
Obviously there was some luck with the timing of Kucherov's injury and return this year, but they won the cup without Stamkos the year before too...

Ryan Hartman, and Marcus foligno are exactly like how bill Guerin was. Both were rewarded with 3 years extension at season's beginning.
- Also Minnesota isn't taking on Kerfoot, or especially his contract</div></div>
Yeah maybe you're right, but everyone has their price, and with the cap squeeze from Suter/Parise coming in 3-4 years maybe a chance to pickup prospects and picks for a rebuild-on-the-fly might appeal.
From the leafs perspective, maybe they're willing to overpay for Marcus if they know it means they get Nick too and can have them pair up to solidify their third line.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Pete</b></div><div>This is Bolts, bro :( . Who knows what they unofficially promised to Bowman to take Johnson.</div></div>
Not a bad deal for Chicago, they get a second rounder and Johnson is a decent player.
Tampa is just so well run - next offseason they likely let Palat walk and use that cap space on Point's next deal. The following offseason Killorn is up just in time for Cirelli's next contract. Then Stamkos the year after with more RFA's likely to sign bigger deals. Will be interesting to see if Killorn and Stamkos resign for significantly less or go elsewhere.

TOR what is Riellys Value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TrueCanuck</b></div><div>I'm currently working on a semi to fairly realistic post for the Leafs for the off-season and it involves moving Rielly to Vancouver as well actually. I think it it fits both teams great, but for Toronto the package coming back has to have JT Miller as the main piece as they're thin at centre and Miller can step into that role behind Matthews and Tavares nicely as well as play up and down the lineup when needed</div></div>
I agree a trade centered around Rielly for Miller makes a lot of sense for both sides... probably need Rielly to agree to an extension with the Canucks to make it happen though which will be very awkward for the leafs if it doesn't work out.

leafs after expansion draft
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>NHLfan10506</b></div><div>Would be shocked if Seattle took Kerfoot
Due to cap, there are going to be more, high-salary vets left unprotected than we expect. They'll take the better ones, so hitting cap floor not as much of an issue.</div></div>
So they'll take Dermott instead in this scenario? Or Joey Anderson? I'm ok with any of these outcomes, which is why I think the leafs go with the 4/4 protection option instead of 7/3. If Dermott goes then they can likely bring back Lehtonen, and give Sandin more opportunity. They're covered either way.

Why is OLE worth a 1st round pick, and two 2nd round picks and Dumoulin.
When him and Dumoulin are the same age(29) and OLE is twice as much money and a 7 year term to Dumoulin’s 3 year term?
I don’t think he’s that big of an upgrade over Dumoulin(paying 8.2M for 7 more years instead of 4.1M for 3 more years and a 1st and two 2nd round picks)</div></div>
OEL is definitely an upgrade on Dumoulin, Pens are in win-now mode and they need upgrades on D. Dumping Matheson's contract and getting Hjalmarsson with 50% retained certainly justifies the draft picks, and Arizona may ask for a prospect too.

Disagree - having an elite offensive player like Nylander to play with the likes of Thornton and Spezza in the bottom 6 will make the Leafs more difficult to match up against. Loading up the top 2 lines makes them too easy to defend in the playoffs.
