Put Ovy and Kane together and both break records in goals and points...those two on the same line and the PP#1 would be unreal. Best goal scorer in the last 15 years and best playmaker in the last 15 years would be unstoppable

Who cares, those two outscore the opponent hands down. They'll give up a lot of goals but they definitely will outscore. The PP alone may break a all-time team PP conversion record in the NHL

I'd rather not make this trade. I don't see it being worthwhile to trade the amount they would need to get Kane, and I don't see him being enough of an upgrade to justify it. If they did, I would think they send CMM instead of Lapierre, but overall I don't see it being super beneficial. Add to that the news that players such as Kane probably knew about the ****show going on in Chicago with Aldrich, and I don't think they touch that since there could be repercussions for it.

As for the Steel trade, I doubt the Ducks are looking to move him at this time.

Contrary to many other Caps fans, I actually think Kane and Ovi on a line wouldn't be that good, as that line needs some grit that WIlson brings, and in my opinion Kane would take goals away from Ovi.

Patrick Kane would 100% be the catalyst to the Capitals winning the cup. Depending on what you want... for Washington. They got the 1 cup but more than likely will never achieve that again with the current roster BUT will be steadily good for the foreseeable future OR do you want them to try to win 1 more cup while also becoming an offensive powerhouse helping ovechkin score as many goals as possible while he still is able to (age is a factor most cases) . imo i would rather go for it then suck and become a lottery team than to be middle of the road for the next 10 years.... cups are forever and who knows the next time a player like ovechkin will fall to the Capitals?

Talked to some duck fans and they said his value is roughly a late 2nd

I think that what they have right now is still a Stanley cup contending team. I think this team right now is actually quite similar to 2018, with a great top 6, actual depth scoring, Value defense that gets stuff done, and a reliable goalie tandem. I'd rather have pieces for the future in the back pocket so that the Caps can have replacements ready in case guys like Oshie fall off. I just don't see mortgaging the future here paying off. Maybe in a year or two you see these trades but I don't think the window is as short as people think. We've seen the Caps make plenty of moves for offense over the years but they almost always fall to pieces in the postseason.

I don't see Kane waiving his NMC anyway, and while Chicago has a new gm I still expect them to be quite stubborn with moving a franchise face.

I agree with the value for the ducks, I just don't think Murray wants to trade him right now.

im impatient with Mantha bc of what we gave up to obtain him but ill be interested to see how he does with Backy who , imo, is a top 10 playmaker in the league. hopefully they can make a push

I agree, right now offensive depth is the caps biggest hole and are probably one 2-way winger from being a legitimate contender. Kane is a great player but his defense is a bit suspect. Come playoff time good defense from all positions is important especially with two young goalies, something Kane doesn’t provide enough of.

Kane, while still a elite goal scorer, has always been a better setup man. As an example, Kubalik and Debrincat aren't what they are without playing a decent amount with Kane on the other wing. Ovy is maybe the best all-time goal scorer, Kane one of the best all-time creative playmakers those two together would be lights out and while not enough grit or defense, hard to stop them in the offensive zone. That said, I get your point as well, at least on the PP those two together would be unstoppable with someone else assisting them in front of the net.

He might be the best combination of playmaking and finishing (still nah tho) but I can think of many better playmakers from the past 15 years like...

Backstrom there ^
Sid
Geno
Barzal
Joey Thornts
Henrik Sedin
Getzlaf
Connor McDavid naturally
Foppa
Datsyuk
Mario was technically active 15 years ago lol 🤷‍♂️

There is no place on gods green earth where Matt barzal and Ryan getzlaf are better play makers than Patrick kane

If we look at assists per game played, Kane is #32 all-time. Among active players only behind McDavid, Malkin, Crosby, Backstrom, and Panarin; Thornton is not far behind. Assists alone doesn't tell the whole story but it's a good starting point.

If we look at adjusted assists all-time Kane is #25 and among active players, Kane is #3 only behind Crosby and Thornton.

Now departure from stats which gives a good indication but not the full story, Kane is the most creative playmaker in the last 15 years. He literally changed the way scouts and coaches view size, creativeness, puck handling abilities, and being able to create something from nothing (playmaker). (McDavid and Matthews are doing that in this generation). Very few players are generational talents like Crosby, Kane, Ovy, etc. for different reasons as their games all very. I guess it boils down to what one's definition of playmaking is?

If you add to the fact he never had a dynamic duo on line with consistency for most of his career I'd argue Kane is in the discussion for the most effective playmaker in during that time. Example: Kane has played with 18 different centers in the league, most of which are average at best when he played with them...that puts a lot into perspective. On the opposite wing the biggest name he played with at any consistency was Panarin for 2 seasons, but outside of that nobody was consistent. Coach Q and now JC like(d) to pair Kane up with either budding stars to jump start their careers (Panarin, Debrincat), or average players to elevate their effectiveness.

Obviously Crosby is better then Kane as example, but is he a better playmaker when considering what I shared? Is Thornton? Hard to answer objectively but see objective arguments can be made for all these top guys over the last 15 years.
