I don’t think that’s a mistake. Doughty is better than a lot of guys on your list. Factor in pedigree, experience, and compete level, and I think he’s a good pick

Pedigree and experience are just nice ways of saying that he’s older. Just because Jakob Chychrun has never played a playoff game doesn’t mean that he isn’t one of the best D in the NHL. Doughty isn’t good defensively, and there are much better options offensively.

Also, if a player isn’t trying their best, they aren’t on the Olympic team. Doughty doesn’t compete any harder than anyone else who could make the team.

The last time Drew Doughty won anything was 5 years ago, and that wasn’t even deserved at the time. Jaromir Jagr, Joe Thornton, Jussi Jokinen, Kyle Okposo, and Loui Eriksson all scored 60+ points that season. A lot can change in that time, and Doughty has only gotten worse since then.

Absolutely. The fact that Doughty’s measly 51 points when he wasn’t even great defensively won the Norris ahead of Karlsson who had the most points by a defenseman in a season since 1996 will never stop annoying me.
