That would be an odd choice. I'm not sure what could possibly make the difference a 1st round pick coming from a team that wasn't a playoff team last year, and likely won't be this year.

Oh please, Calgary is a better team than Nashville. Just didn't make the playoffs the teams in the North division was good.

Lindholm is almost just as good as Gaudreau while Forsberg is carrying their offense since Johansen and Duchene are not even close to being as good as Forsberg

Nashville made the playoffs in a much tougher division...

But look at the offense and Dallas didn't have Seguin or Radulov and Chicago didn't have Toews and Nashville had no problem beating them (except for the comeback win for Chicago)
Let's also look at point totals, Forsberg put up 32 points while only playing 39 games. Gaudreau has 49 in 56. Not saying Gaudreau is bad, Forsberg is better

...and Ottawa sucked, the Canucks got Covid, yadda, yadda, yadda. Aside from certain fans of certain Canadian teams saying otherwise, the consensus last year was the Canadian division was the worst of the 4 divisions.

    As for point totals:

    32/39 (82)=67 pt pace over 82 games.
    49/56 (82)=72 pt pace over 82 games.

Even if we were to say that Forberg > Gaudreau (Which I think is a stretch, but sure, let's go with it), the difference is absolutely not a 1st.

No, it's got nothing to do with being an Oilers fan. I like Gaudreau well enough, I just like Forsberg better. He's scored more goals and points (/60) at 5v5 over the past 2 years with less help and he's better able to withstand physical playoff hockey just due to his greater size and strength.

In any case I don't know why either team would do this - if they are both deadline sellers neither will be interested in a rental. So the trade makes no sense, I was just commenting on which player I'd rather have.

Is it really less help though? Gaudreau played nearly the entire season with an AHL plug and a broken Monahan. I also wouldn't say he is more suited for playoff hockey with his injury history being a pretty big factor.

You are correct though that the trade makes zero sense

The difference between the two is absolutely not the difference between a 1st and 2nd. They're both rentals, and the deal makes no sense.

Yes, Forsberg's IPP was higher for the two years I looked at.
