That's a gross overpayment on Brady.

You might as well just give him the same contract that his brother Matthew has with the Calgary Flames.

It is so foolish to overpay a player so much, a thought Leaf fan would know. Fact it (as I see it), Brady does not want to be a Senator for eight more years, If Brady is to play as a Sen he is either going to sign a bridge or five year deal. Sens aren't making the playoffs this year regardless. If Brady wants to sit out the NHL season, so be it. Remember, Brady can sign with any team, any league he wants to, the Sens aren't holding him back.

Tkachuk isn't looking for more money, he's looking for less term.

He's looking for an NTC or NMC, modified or otherwise, and Signing Bonuses. Old uncle Euge doesn't like July 1st signing bonuses nor does he like NTC's due to Dany Heatley getting his and then asking for a trade and the vetoing a trade because of his NTC. Fool me once...

While I think this contract is insane, the guy loves it here and will eventually sign here. We just don't know for how long or for how much...

Problem is, he doesn't want to stay without commitment from the organization that they will be competitive while he's here (I.E. Stone, Karlsson, Alfredsson). Ottawa has control of his rights regardless. Sure he can go to Europe and play. But, he's not going anywhere (in the NHL) unless a team offer-sheets him way above asking price. Which team has both cap and picks to offer-sheet him?

I'm saying a 7-8 year deal with Bonuses and NMC/NTC or a 3 year bridge with static pay. By the time his contract is up, Zaitsev and Murray will be gone and he can make bank then.

Well, you're right.....99% sure he will sign with Sens....now we are talking term. IMO, I am correct, he wants his UFA open as ASAP. Don't why you brought up Stone and Karlsson. The Sens were failing with them and Duschene. It wasn't so much about money...it was about being UFAs and looking elsewhere. Brilliant move by Sens to trade the declining EK.
NTC/NMC can't happen anyway till year five past his ELC so really is it that shouldn't be a big deal breaker if he signs long term. NTC/NMC can't be in effective till summer of 2025..
My prediction a 3 year deal. Then Tkachuk has the option of taking a a one year deal or signing long term with Sens. IMO he takes the one year deal, and looks to be a UFA options in the summer of summer of 2025.

It's actually quite interesting to see the connection with Stone, Karlsson and Tkachuk (you can include Pageau in there too for arguments sake) from a business side of things. On ice production tells a different story of course (I.E. Karlsson). All three have the same agency (Newport sports) and all three have had... issues with Sens Management. The former Sens all got insane contracts on their new teams that include bonuses, NMC's and NTC's (save Pageau on the bonuses). The longer this situation with Tkachuk drags out, the more I'm resigned to the fact that Ottawa loses him 2-3 years down the road and continues the trend of being the NHL's farm team.

I'm all for the players getting paid. Got get your money. Owner's really screwed with them on the CBA and are screwing them out of a lot of money (hence why a lot of players want bonuses upfront). But that's a millionaires vs. billionaires situation us little folk shouldn't be crying about.

NYR decline that without a second thought.

If Brady is making $8M he best be signing an 8 year deal. No chance I'd pay him 8+ for just ONE of his UFA years.

Why would any small market waist their time with stars, it simply doesn't end well, they want out asap. The NYI depth route would be the wise way to go
