Kirill isn't getting a 3 years deal. Elc are 3 years, or 4. In 3 years Alexander khovanov would still be on elc contract.

No it would be 3 years left then, I usually reduce the contract years if I’m going into the future

I don't think McBain or Johansson are NHL players, but that's my only major critique. The rest seems pretty reasonable.
But also, I don't believe Fiala will be on the team in three years, I think Guerin is trying to ship him out. But that's more just my opinion.

Nothing happened to him, he just never should have been a first rounder. He's progressed slightly from what he was, but he hasn't progressed enough to believe he has an NHL future. Maybe he'll be a bottom pair D someday for a little bit, but I don't think it'll be any time soon or with the Wild.

He was a projected 3rd rounder that MN reached for in the 1st.

I still think McBain has a shot at the NHL, if he adds some goal scoring. I've been thinking the same about Fiala.

Until Kaprizov's contract is sorted out I can't say what this team will look like in 3 years. They could end up trading away all of Kaprizov, Fiala, Hartman, Foligno, Zucc, Greenway, Dumba, and Spurgeon; (mini tank) play the kids for the $14m dead cap years; and start with basically a whole new team when they aren't in cap hell.

I think MN offers him a contract and hope FJ rejects it so they can get a 2nd round compensation pick out of the deal.

Just little comment to add on : hope it makes sense
No chance like ever is spurgeon, foligno getting traded. maybe Hartman. Guerin will never ever do a mini rebuilding, neither especially will Minnesota's owner. Not how they operate. Spurgeon can't be traded due to his contract either. Like wild beat writer has said about foligno, will be a cold day in 'H' before gm Guerin ever let's go of foligno.

Also due to being in the state of hockey, Minnesota will never. One season recently when they were bad, reporters commented about how half of a , or something along those lines about fans not showing up, and wild having to cover up those seats. Let me just say this, hockey fans; Minnesota fans will not accept blatant rebuilding, or mini ones.

If a high draft pick gets a bonafide offer, doesn't sign, and becomes a free agent; the NHL gives the team a 1 round later compensation pick. So MN's 2018 24th pick in 1st round (FJ) would turn into a 2023 24th pick in the 2nd round.

I don't remember the last time it happened, but it's there to cover a team if a player they picked pulls a Vesey.

Lots of stuff here. Some repetitive, some fresh.

Seen some stuff on McBain and Johansson. I think it’s unlikely McBain gets an offer as he’s an overage senior that has the ability to become a free agent in July. Maybe we offer him a contract and he signs, but he’s incentivized to look elsewhere. As for Johansson, I don’t know why they wouldn’t offer him a deal since he’s been playing on a top SHL team and apparently playing fine. Worst thing that happens is they burn a contract slot, IDK if he’s an NHLer but a 3rd pair guy in the late 1st isn’t bad.

Lambos and O’Rourke are wild cards, IDK if they’re both NHLers in 3 years with the way BG is constructing his rosters. Same for Marat. This is just a lot of young guys.

And now for the hot take. I guarantee Fiala and Greenway are gone, and each passing day makes it look like KK will be too. It just doesn’t make sense to hold onto Kap for 5 years only to see him walk when this team is ready to make noise, better off trading him at his peak IMO. I also think you’ll see Dumba there as well unless Addison or Lambos absolutely blows people away.

All told, you are absolutely right the young guys are gonna get their shot but I think you’ll see some more FA vets.

I think MN is one of the best places for McBain if he has NHL dreams. The future bottom-6 center spots are wide open and he has the size that the rest of the center prospects are lacking working in his favor. I can see a Foligno/McBain/Hartman 4th line happening in 3 years.

Serious question what about him makes you think he’d be a fit for that line? The things I hear about him are that he’s big, a two way player and doesn’t skate at an NHL caliber. Being big really doesn’t matter, two way player is just a nice way to say he doesn’t score and the skating would be an issue.

I have no issues offering him a contract but I don’t anticipate him playing a game for the Wild.

Big, 2 way player, for a 4th line, is what you're looking for. Play him in a checking/PK role and that he is more suited for than Marat K or Khovanov. The d-corps is small, the rest of the prospect centers are small, most of the wing are small or don't have a 2-way game.

His skating problems aren't top speed, it's the first step/acceleration; which is something that's fixable with a skating coach and practice. His lack of goal scoring is my bigger concern. I think if he can follow the Sturm path of: college/taste of the pros this year (so he has an idea of what to work on in the offseason), full season AHL next year (maybe a callup), then fighting for a NHL roster spot then next year. I just don't see that chance happening with many other organizations that already have similar position/size/ build prospects and/or a more set center lineup ahead of them.

I think the future 3C is between Khovanov/Marat K and the future 4C is between Dewar/McBain. I really don't want to see Rossi or Khovanov on the PK. Dewar is also more of an energy, 4th line wing imo (Rau type tweener).

I think your thought process is good but I just don’t agree with a lot of it. Big difference between McBain and Sturm is that Sturm scored and he can skate. And while I’m sympathetic to having lots of small players, there is nothing that shows size actually helps you win other than tradition and dogma.

McBain may be the "type" you want as a 4th line center, it's just that he specifically isn't good enough.

Dewar is 6 months older and scoring at a similar rate in the AHL. The two players aren't close at this point.

I see Dewar as a wing not a center in the NHL. From my limited viewings in the AHL I like him better when he was on the wing there. His game opened up when he was playing wing.
