seattle would not, 2 good prospects (especially Kaut who is NHL ready and has shown well in the NHL already) for a 3rd lien Rental winger? Thats a massive overpayment

It’s not that it’s necessarily bad, but the point of trading Gus is to open up a roster spot, not replace him with another M6 forward. I also feel, particularly with retention, the draft pick compensation should be better for CBJ.

Point being, for two years of Gus, CBJ should be getting a package more similar to the SEA one. I would expect them to be willing to retain more than $750K as well.

The Strome trade is so bad for COL for a number of reasons. Strome is 1) a horrible fit. He isn’t a pk’er, he is slow, and he is super dependent on linemates for production. 2) the value is awful adding a 2nd to retain for a guy that produced the exact same pt output in a top 6 role that Jost did in a bottom 6 role.

The Seattle trade is just giving away prospects for a bottom 6 guy. Swap Kaut with Bowers and maybe, but IMO guys like Jarnkrok are not where you should be spending assets.

I would call Seattle and offer them Compher and a mid-level pick/prospect for Jarnkrok. I could see him fitting nicely with Jost and Nuke. If they won't take something like that though, then move on.

If the Avs have real hopes of being long term contenders guys like Kaut, Bowers, Foudy, LOC need to make these kind of trades unnecessary though.

True, but part of the point of this would be trading two years of an expensive Compher for one year of a less expensive but similar player. I see it as a win all around, as it frees up money and space next year while at least maintaining (and hopefully upgrading) the roster. I wouldn't want a bottom six guy signed long term (unless the contract was a steal), but that wouldn't be the case here. Like I said though, I wouldn't do it unless it involved JT (and his extra year) going the other way.
