I have been good with the Monahan, Zary, Dube, 2022 first for quite some time.
Make that trade with Buffalo then Buffalo can retain on Monahan
DeBrusk, Schmaltz, Zary, Dube with BOS and CGY 2022 first round picks would be a great return IMO.
Between the Monahan retention and DeBrusk salary, Buffalo should be able to reach the cap floor.

Monahan doesnt get a 1st. If hes retained on than probably. But i dont see them giving debrusk as well.

Why would Monahan not return a 1st? Did you sleep through the Dvorak trade?

Just bc someone is desperate and overpays doesnt make it the going price. Does every elite defenseman return 2 2nds just bc thats what devon toews got? No.

It wasnt an overpay. Monahan is definitely worth a 1st and a 2nd at least. He's a perennial 25+ goal scorer and top 6 center, and still leads his draft class in goals.

The last 2 years havent been good especially last year. He was on pace for 16 goals over a full season. If he plays back to his pre covid form then yes he easily gets a 1st but right now with that very bad season and a 6+ million cap hit with a flat cap i wouldnt move a 1st for him, especially in a draft as strong as this one.
Also the last part is irrelevant. We are talking about what he is and what he will be, not what he was.

As well as something else, he does not lead his draft class in goals thats fake news. Nathan MacKinnon is the goals leader of the 2013 draft class.

He was pacing 62 points before he got injured this most recent season

He was out for 6 games. He was on pace for 45 points and 16 goals. Thats not someone im moving a 1st in this draft for, especially as hes not on a bargain. 6+ is a significant amount to have to make room for. Like i said if he bounces back to his pre covid self (5 straight seasons of 25+ goals and ~60 points) then he will be worth more than a 1st. But rn in this offseason, if i was a gm, i wouldnt move a 1st for him. If he was retained it would be another story. The 1 million retained ⬆️ does make a 1st more palateable. If it was 1.5 i would move a 1st for him, probably even if it was 1 million, but i would take debrusk out of the deal. (Idk anything about jake schmaltz). If you take debrusk schmaltz and the pick out of the deal i think its fair.

Did you just ignore the part where I siad before he got injured? He screwed up his hip mid February when he missed 2 games. When they put jim on IR at the end of the season they even said he haf been fighting the injury for a while. Again, prior to the injury he was pacing 62 points, post injury he was pacing 38
