Canes can make both of these trade offers but neither team accepts - blues want more and are going to wait to get it and leafs won’t move Rielly unless top 4 d who can help today comes back (even tho I think value for a year of Rielly is good here, just doesn’t make sense for them to do).

First of all, there's no such thing as a fluke in the NHL. Yes, Price was unsustainably good, but they were also a very good team that got hot at the right time. Yes, the lightning have lost pieces, but they have pieces to replace them, like Barre-Boulet, don't underestimate them. The Islanders are still very much a threat in the east. Yes, they lost Eberle and Leddy but they're still gonna be very good, probably better than the Rangers.

Rushing a cup run with such a young team is dumb, and we're not gonna solve the experience problem with Rielly and Tarasenko. Be patient.

STL will have to retain regardless of the return and there's no way STL is getting any significant return or they would have by now. Tarasenko is a gamble.

Pretty sure this team doesn't win the cup, and with 4m less in cap space (guessing we don't resign Rielly), even just resigning Fox and Zibs will be an issue. Since Fox probably gets around a 9m deal, and Zibs def gets a raise too. If you wanna resign Kakko and Kravtsov too, it'll be another few million. That doesn't even consider the fact that they'll all probably be important parts in a cup run, which will definitely raise their value. Especially Zibs and Fox. What I'm basically saying is, this is not a good idea.

these 2 trades are exactly what the Rangers don't need.
