Rielly Resigns

Créé par: EEEEE15

Description
This isn't meant to be that realistic. Just the layout I think the Leafs should go with.

1st Line: This hopefully carries on the chemistry that they develop from the previous season.
2nd Line: Same applies to this as the 1st line.
3rd Line: This could be a shutdown line. Kampf as the shutdown center, Bunting playing like a cheaper version of Hyman and Spezza being a vet and being responsible with the puck.
4th Line: This would be an insanely fun line to watch if all three can transition to NHL hockey by this point, which I doubt. These three have already shown the insane chemistry they have when they lit up the OHL playing for the Petes. Chemistry isn't the issue as much as transition to the NHL is.

1st Pairing: Rielly and Brodie stay together with the chemistry they have.
2nd Pairing: Muzzin and Holl also stay together.
3rd Pairing: Sandin and Liljegren play on this pairing but if it struggles you have a veteran that can slot in. I picked Staal but it can be any Bogosian like veteran who's solid and takes league minimum.

Campbell and Mrazek are our tandem for at least the next 3 seasons.

Dubas has repeatedly said that he believes in the core, so if there are no huge core changes, this is what I hope.

Lemme know your thoughts in the comments.

Appreciate this post. Goes to show why extending Rielly next year would be a mistake. They have no cap space

I promise I don't mean this to troll because I know it will come off that way. Leafs fans on here continuously tout Rielly to be a true #1 who's one of the top dmen in the league. If what Leafs fans on here believe is true, $7.7 is likely a very low number.

Also islanders decline. Aho and a 5th is plenty for dermott, no need to flip a 2nd for a 3rd.

I personally don't think he's worth more than $7M. My point is that there is a huge disconnect here based on the trades we see daily from Leafs fans. They get KINGS ransoms in trades from teams that can't even make room for him and they justify it by arguing he's an elite #1 dman, but when it comes time to pay him he's $7.7M. I've seen him extended as low as $6M on here from Leafs fans. Do those seem like the numbers an elite #1 dmen signs for?

Agreed. But the point of the original post was that if rielly is as good as leafs fans make him out to be, he is not getting paid enough.
Edit: I didn't realize you made the original post. I was just following up on your post.

Taxi squad don't exist. SDA won't be ready (brooks) think Anderson takes the spot gogolev and rather have Rubin's or Hollowell over Marc stall to save some cap

I read reports he may be willing to take one, but we hear that often and it rarely seems to come to fruition.

Rasmus Ristolainen was traded to the Philadelphia Flyers by the Buffalo Sabres on Friday for Robert Hagg, a first-round pick (No. 14) in the 2021 NHL Draft and a second-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Morgan Rielly if traded will get something like this

It's just trying to get it to fit in I guess. Also that reported that he would take a discount but that was before the market spiked. Now no one knows. If he goes to FA he will get close to 9 by Seattle

Could still work if Rielly takes a hometown discount at $7.7M. Kerfoot and Holl could easily be moved, creating $5.5M more in space, which is more than enough for adds.

Leafs will always be a team right up against the cap as long as they're trying to contend - so having little to no cap space doesn't concern them. They e proven they know how to make it work and make wiggle room outta the smallest space. It's entirely possible that Rielly re-signs and sticks around long term in Toronto

We hear reports of that all the time and is seldom happens, at least with bigger players. It's rumored Malkin will take a discount and possibly Letang, but I'm not even banking on that until it happens lol

Two guys the just protected in the expansion draft. Kerfoot maybe, but Holl is going nowhere. I would be very hesitant on signing a 28 year old offensive defenceman to 7+ mil for 7 years. If his skating goes that contract will age terribly. The only way a Morgan extension makes sense is if a larger contract is moved out

You just said Leaf fans ask for KINGS ransoms, I consider a roster player, a 1st, and a 2nd a Kings ransom is all

I'm going off what is being reported. And iirc both bunting and Ritchie took minor discounts to come here so it do happen but rarely on big contracts. Rielly is the type to do it I believe tho.

The big thing is no one knows what a discount would look like anymore or what his trade value is because everyone was reported prior to everything.

Except leafs fans have been creating trades for MUCH more than that and to teams that have no room or need for him simply because he's a #1, "they'll make it happen."

A fair trade in my eyes going off what his value was before and now is a 1st a top prospect and a 3rd. Jones got 2 1sts a top RD prospect and a 2nd for Jones and the 32nd pick. If you take the 2nd round and 32 overall since they were acutally close in pick number I think it's 2 first and a top Rd prospect

So a 1st and top prospect and 3rd if it's trade for futures only isn't far fetched imo jones gets more because of being a RD

Of course with extension etc

This is true, but sadly there are many you can genuinely tell aren't trolls. Look, most fans of their own teams overvalue, let's be honest, but it's just been to a crazy degree specifically with Rielly.

Highly doubt Reilly signs for so little. Depending onKampf and Sam to be 3/4 centres iffy. Spezza and Gogolev as 3/4 RWers iffy. Lilegren is a UFA if that's the Leafs best offer.
