Blues shouldn't give up Thomas for a defenseman whose primary skill is offense when they already have Krug locked in for six more years.

If they did, you're going to trade him for Tage Thompson, ie the guy the Blues gave up instead of Thomas in the abysmal O'Reilly trade? Seems...bad

Samuelsson would be a solid pickup in a vacuum (ie, not for an established NHL player), especially if you're moving Rielly. But really don't get the Tage appeal. He is Very Tall, but his shot and his hands haven't been doing him much justice at the NHL level. I get it's Buffalo, and he might be worth the project if you believe in his skillset but again, not at the expense of other established NHL players with better track records (and, in Thomas' case, at hard to fine positions like center).

The Blues, rightly or wrongly (I think rightly), see Thomas as a future top six center and like I said, they already have a Rielly type defenseman locked in for six years with another highly touted offensive d-man in the system in Perunovich. I'm not opposed to a Rielly trade but can't see them giving up Thomas unless he asks out for whatever reason.
