With an extension in place, I think Vegas would 100% do this.

I viewed him similar to Seth Jones. I made an agm where the leafs extended both Jones and Rielly to matching 6 year x 7m deals. People said I over priced Jones and Rielly. And then Chicago did their madness with Jones and now my brain hurts. Rielly is a very high end dman and will absolutely get 7. But I wouldnt go higher than 7-7.5m for the leafs. But I can see other teams going this high.

Vegas is at the cap ceiling with 21 players right now. This puts them over the cap and it’s an overpay for something they don’t need. Easy no.

The additional cap for this year to vegas is very little. Mikheyev can be removed from the trade if needed also. The rielly extension would kick in next year and they have 5m from Smith coming off the books at that time. They could swing that easy.

Then you still need to replace Smith, plus they have some pretty good guys at LD like Theodore, Martinez, McNabb and Hague. No way Vegas even considers this. Plus you are taking one of their RD that they are kind of thin on. Nah no way they can swing this or would even want to.
Not to mention Vegas throwing in those picks is madness.

Pretty terrible trade for Vegas, they really don't need Rielly.
