The amount of Hawks fans on twitter okay with the Johnson trade is beyond me. It makes zero to little sense.

From a hockey point of view it's nuts. The only way I can make sense of it is if seabrookes contract was uninsured and the Hawks owner just didn't want to pay him for nothing and instead are paying Johnson roughly the same to at least be an okay, but over paid, nhler

Money wise is fine, but cap wise and impact on the team and bailing out the Stanley Cup champ's dynasty of a team is unfathomable logic was.

I suspect NHL GM's don't care at all about bailing out other teams beyond the leverage it may give them in negotiations (unlike fans who care a lot it seems)

That being said they don't seem to have gotten nearly enough to have taken 3 years of Johnson so the $ thing is the only thing I can think of

They essentially lost 11 mil towards their cap if you factor in LTIR. 6 that doesn't count towards cap trade out for 5 mil that will count towards cap, right after you just re-signed Seth Jones to 9.5 mil AAV that kicks in next year. Bowman just creating cap hell for Tyler Johnson's services.

And I don't mind a good trade with tampa, like if a team trades for Palat, they sort of are bailing them out, but not really, because Palat is/was a big part to their success. Tyler Johnson as you mentioned a lot of term left for an aging dwindling talent, and was the one player that essentially doesn't move the needle much for them either way. He's a solid player still, but more easily replaceable.

How about just trade for Hampus Lindholm? Strome + Beaudin + pick?

Cap would need to be heading back FOR SURE. Connolly would be preferred, but DeHaan would be acceptible. I also actually think ANA would prefer Alex Vlasic from Boston University. He'd be PERFECT next to Drysdale. That's just my opinion though.

Yeah I’m not sure that’s enough. Depends how good Vlasic is. I’m sure they’d be asking for Reichel or Beaudin instead of Vlasic

For the record Johnson is only like 9 months older than Palat. He just declined fairly young.

Reichel was a no go for Jones. Can't see him being in the trade. I could do Beaudin...I just think ANA would prefer Vlasic over Beaudin
