Description
EDIT: Original version of this had Jack Roslovic as the piece of that CBJ trade, still a bit optimistic that Kadri and Beaucage get it done, hoping that buying low on Domi is enough to do it, BUT could forsee this trade needing another prospect/draft pick to get it done. Threw in Suter just for the hell of it, but if it's not him, just imagine "Default responsible bottom 4 2.5 million big defensemen" in his place. A bit optimistic on the Jost number, I think he’s actually worth 1.5 million but it’s gonna be hard to tell him that when he sees Nuk making 2.5, Compher making 3.5, and an open 2C spot that he excelled in at the end of the year. MacDonald and Kaut are added to the roster just for the sake of showing who would fill depth roles.

2.65M Salary retained on Domi should make this work.

I have no idea why CBJ does that

Col isn't going to overpay Gabe that much, they'd let him walk for that

Feel like you overpaid Jost by about $1M. Suter can't have that much if he's chasing a Cup - he's made a ton of money in his career, now is the time to sign for a very low amount on a legit team.

CBJ loves Roslovic, think it would take a massive overpay to get him and that’s not it. They’re much more inclined to move Laine.

Ros is from the CBJ area, they aren't going to trade him. If there is one FA they can count on staying, it's him. All his people are there.

With you re: the CBJ trade. Hard disagree re: Gabe, it's 1M shy of they offered initially, with Donskoi and Graves gone bumping Gabe up by 1M is more than feasible. Overpaying by 1M makes more sense than letting your locker room's heart and soul walk out for nothing.

Re: CBJ It'd probably take another forward prospect or draft pick to take Kadri, BUT in the short term, Kadri is an immediate upgrade at the center position, expiring contract sent to a bad team with the potential to flip him at the deadline for more assets, when it's all said and done, they could maybe look at turning Roslovic into into 2-4 assets if they play their cards right.

See, I think Jost is worth actually 1.5m, but I also think Jost is gonna look around and see Nuke making 2.5 and Compher making 3.5, AND leverage that he found himself producing on the second line and in the playoffs and ask for more. So I figure we meet in the middle here.

Suter's agent was in the Athletic talking up a storm ab how he wants to win but he also wants to get paid. One year 1-off contract to get you a top Defensemen (albeit, a declining and aging one)? I'll take that. Someone's gonna offer him that money, might as well be Col if they've got the space and ESPECIALLY if he'll only be around for a year.

Domi retained for Kadri sure, but Roslovic is from Columbus, the blue jackets would be very hard pressed to trade the hometown hero unless it was an absolute steal, one season of kadri and Bowers isn’t that.

I'd take Domi retained for Kadri any day. Agree with you re: Bowers, that's why I offered Beaucage and Kadri instead hahah. To be honest, I think that Kadri deal takes another forward prospect/draft pick to get it done. If you're a bad CBJ team come trade deadline and you have Kadri, there's another 2 prospects you could flip him for. 4 assets out of one Jack Roslovic?? Not bad I'd say

I liked your Domi idea and decided to roll with that.

If you’re the Columbus fans you’d rather go watch the hometown hero vs 4 assets and when a team sucks like they will, keeping him sells tickets and “makes” money. It would also piss off a lot of Columbus people to see their hometown kid traded away. It would be like the Coyotes getting Auston Matthew’s and trading him out after a season.

For sure, I guess it's a matter of what you're trying to get out of your roster. There's what the fans want and then there's building a contender.

Either way, I get what you're saying re: Ros. I liked your Domi idea though and decided to roll with that and updated everything accordingly.

Jost produced on the 2nd line? That's news to me considering he finished at 2-2-4 for the entire playoffs and wasn't playing on the second line until Naz got suspended. I don't think he has a lot of leverage and while he may have earned a raise for his defensive play, he isn't elite at that yet and doesn't produce a lot of points which are the two areas where players really get paid. IMO, he maxes out around $1.75M
