Potentially a big part, hes a ufa in 2 years. You guys arent ready to contend now its gonna take time for holtz/mercer/(hughes?) and whoever to reach their ceiling. You guys arent ready yet, at least get something for him as opposed to having him play on a mediocre team and then hit FA.

Heres my theory on tarasenko. Armys been trying to move him for a long time now, this we know. No ones interested either bc of what army wants back, or bc hes too big of a question mark. Either way his value goes down, and ever since he went public that value went doen even more. I dont think rn tarasenko will return anything really at full price, otherwise he would be gone by now imo. So i moved 2 2nds and a former 1st round pick whos also a question mark for tarasenko 50% retained. If army wouldve gotten an offer like this for tarasenko @7.5, he wouldnt still be a blue. When tarasenko gets traded, come back here and youll see its not going to be significantly more than this package.

The team can’t just sit around and not be competitive hoping that everyone somehow hits their stride. He fills a huge hole that NJ had last year and can push them closer to a playoff spot. Getting him won’t be the only move NJ makes and the goal is to be good enough in those 2 years that he would be open to re-signing
