Description
Ok, so there are some stretches here (both in terms of the trades and contracts signed), but this seems like a strong roster.
Dermott is gone in expansion, Reilly and Engvall are headed to Arizona and Kerfoot and Abramov are Detroit bound.
Arizona giving up Garland and Keumper AND retaining on Kemper's salary is probably a big ask, but it's necessary to make the numbers work.
The return for Detroit may also not work, but I have less of a sense there of what Yzerman would want.
Trading Reily means a whole on D, which is where Oleksiak comes in - hometown boy takes a bit less to play at home and slots right into the top four.
Overall, this is very strong forward group with a bit more upside down the lineup (though not a ton). On D, it's a similar group to last year, but replacing Reilly's offensive upside with Oleksiak's strong defence. Hopefully a full year of Sandin allows him to replace some of Reilly's offence.

1-you overpaid Oleksiak by 1M
2-this D-core wouldn't work, it has pretty much nothing to give you in terms of offense and you don't even have a true number 1
3-you lack another extra player or two, although this is manageable, with the savings you'd get from not overpaying Oleksiak

No they don't, trading our top line winger for 2 centers that won't be apart of the future and a 2nd round pick is not going to get the deal done

your top line winger also has the back of a 90 year old man. detroit gets a versatile player in Kerfoot and an A level prospect who could see some games in 22-23. along with a 2nd. i think it’s worth it

Like hell we do, Kerfoots value is a 3rd round pick at best. Abramov is a 4th round pick who's NHL certainty is only a 6.5 not very good and a late 2nd round pick. That's pure crap for a top 6 winger of Bertuzzi's caliber.

guys you have to remember the risk that the leafs would be taking in trading for an injury prone player. no one knows what his health is like right now, and how it will be in a few years time. Bertuzzi isent even a top player in the league. to say that that deal can’t bring Tyler to Toronto is crazy. no team will offer more than a roster player+A level prospect+2nd round pick for an injury prone player.

My guess at Oleksiak's salary was based on Dom's projection he posted today ($4.0 million x 4.4 years).
I agree, there isn't any offense on that D and that's a problem. My goal was more to build a better overall team and that meant focusing dollars on the top six.

Detroit doesn't need to trade Bertuzzi for starters. If we chose to it the return would be far better than this or we'd look else where. lastly, Abramov is not an A level prospect, not even close.

He's also plays center which Red Wings is Detroit's strongest area. Don't see him moving past Larkin, Veleno, and Berggren on the depth chart. So that means he'd move to the wing and then have to compete for a spot with Raymond, and Zadina and Vrana so we would be getting a possible top 6 winger (not being the anchor on the line) and a magic bean for one of our top 6 wingers

Editing this cause I forgot Rasmussen down the middle

So Abramov isn't an A level prospect in Detroit's system so there's that. Detroit has 8 prospects in the top 50 in Prospect rankings with Seider and Raymond being #1 and #3 overall among the most of any team so Detroit's pipeline is pretty deep. Detroit passes Dubas has interest in Bertuzzi Yzerman wont deal him unless he gets blown away with an offer he can't refuse. And this isn't that offer. Without Robertson heading to Detroit Bertuzzi wont be a Leaf.

He might if Sandin were to goto Detroit but Leafs wouldn't like that either

Yeah for Bertuzzi to be a Leaf, Either Robertson or Sandin have to be on the table. Or Yzerman looks elsewhere. Philly, Boston, St Louis, LA, Vancouver also have interest in Bertuzzi and can offer us far better then the Leafs.

I think you’re getting your prospects confused. Abramov was traded from Columbus to Ottawa to Toronto and is a b-/c level prospect. Amirov is the A level guy that Toronto took in the 1st round last year.

But as soon as he was traded to Toronto he became an A level prospect because Toronto is better than everyone else. Kerfoot is a bottom 6 forward at best but Toronto want a 2nd and a 3rd for him.
