I’m all for it as a Detroit fan, but I can’t see Vancouver doing it. Maybe it it were closer to moving 5-8 spots back they’d consider it, but 13 is a lot.

well this would certainly complete their quest to get a high impact futures piece at every position. As far as I’m concerned they need a 1LW, a 1LD, and a goalie (after that, an upgrade on larkin-veleno-rasmussen-niederbach up the middle would be nice but they should get one of the highly touted centres in next year’s draft with just 1 more season in the basement, and those guys aren’t bad if that’s what you have to roll with). If they get one of amirov/sandin/robertson from toronto for bertuzzi, draft one of eklund/edvinsson/hughes at 6, and then draft wallstedt (or cossa if wallstedt goes to the sharks, he’s very highly touted as well) they can fill those holes

shoot, I would hope the canes would do that and they are trying to win. TheAthletic trade proposals have been pretty bad lately.

Why is this outlandish? Seems perfectly reasonable and realistic.

Actually this trade proposal has been floating around for a few days on here. It's was a Vancouver fan who originally posted it I think.

The move from 22 to 9 is worth about the 25 pick (based on Tulsky's chart). I'd say that's about the right value for taking this contract because whoever takes has to bury him or buy him out. And his buy out is ridiculous.

I would let him play on the 4th line with Drury as his center and Lorentz as the RW.

If he isnt ready 4.875 million it ride the pine isnt terrible to move up that many spots

A chance to get Wellstadt, Lysell, Kent Johnson, Lucius or other big name that could be available. the forwards would fit in really well with giving us a potential middle 6 scoring option on an ELC when our roster gets really expensive.

This trade actually has more value since that Washington pick is 22nd overall. That being said I don’t think this enough value but isn’t wildly off. I’d add a second round pick ~45 so it would be 22, 45 for Eriksson + 9. Would Carolina be able to sign Hamilton + Svech doing this?

Canucks will never do something so ridiculous. Top9 picks are all interchangeable after that total guessing game. Loui can rot in the minors

If we go strictly 2 year bridge with Svech, yes. If we try to go term with Svech, probably not.

Im still unsure what is happening with Hamilton. Theoritically we could with Hamilton back if we sold off Gardiner with Foegele for futures and then Seattle took Skjei. Bean will replace Gardiner for a million or so and we could get another 2LD for a couple million savings.

I think the scenario they were talking about was putting Loui in the minors only saves them ~1.4mm, so that would raise their free cap to ~$14mm. They need to sign at least 5 players to meet a minimum level of players, and two of those players are EP and Hughes, which will eat up a good portion of the free $14mm (or potentially all of the $14mm). By moving Loui completely, it would give them ~$20mm in cap space.

In my opinion, I don't think the trade is wildly off, nor something that VAN should outright dismiss.

VAN has ~$14mm in free cap space with 15 players. Two of the players they have to sign (EP and Hughes) will take up most, if not all, of that remaining cap space. They can't backfill the rest of the roster with AHL talent (At best, only Woo and Pod would graduate, but Pod has never played on small ice before, so that's a lot to ask a kid). But even if you graduate kids, they take up cap space too. Even buying out Virtanen only saves you ~1.5mm.

If VAN says 2021-2022 is a lost year, then you eat Loui (or play him, as you'll need bodies), sign EP and Hughes, and wait until 2022-2023 to make any moves. In 2022, they'll lose Loui's cap hit, Roberto's cap hit, plus Beagle and Roussel, but they'll also have to sign Boeser.

I think Vancouver is better off using the top 9 pick to get a good player and holding on to Loui for one more season than they are trading back 13 spots to be rid of the contract for one season. They can bridge Petey and Hughes until they have more cap space
