Wouldn't do any of these from Tampa side .. focus on Johnson Gourde Palat and Stamkos .. those the "move 4" that still allow Tampa to 3 peat .. solves all Cap issue for next 5 years..

Colorado can't afford McDonagh. They need to re-sign Landeskog, Makar, Grubauer, then 9 more guys on top of this. All for $25M.

Remember that McDonagh has a full NTC until 2026, so he controls his own destiny. He'll cost some team $6.75M cap hit (most of which is real dollars being paid) while playing from age 32 - 36 (not his prime). That's a tough take for any team in a flat cap era.

After watching them in the playoffs, there will be teams who feel they're close to winning who will overpay them.

What? ... 6.5M cap for Mc Donough is attractive and 32 to 36 for a defensive D is prime ...the regular season stats guys here don't appreciate winners .. Mc Donough a stone cold killa..

You mean like Tampa did in trades?.. sometimes key is to get winners .. not deals or steals...

Exactly. These two guys are in their late 20s, have won two cups each, and have proven that their playoff value is higher than their regular season stats. It's my opinion that they both look to cash in this year on 4 - 5 year deals worth $3M+ for Goodrow, and approx $4.5M for Coleman.

He might be stone cold, but facts are facts:
- He's $6.75M a year for 5 more years.
- He's 32 years old and statistical analysis (which most NHL clubs use) suggest his production will fall off hard. He is certainly NOT in his prime.
- Most (if not all) teams that are close to winning the cup and would want RM are also close the the cap ceiling. How could they afford to add 5x$6.75?

The most important part of all this though, is that RM has a full NTC, and lives/works in a state with zero personal income tax.

Avs can’t afford this, any contract like McD that goes beyond mackinnons is a no fly zone, they can go risk that on the books

Love the player and would help solidify that d core but 2 years of EJ aligns with the avs and mackinnon contract

Too risky IMO for them to make this deal

Sometimes you gotta take the risk in order to be successful. Tampa gave up 3 first round picks for two bottom 6 players and it turned out to be the difference. The Avs have the talent up front but could absolutely use a guy like McDonagh. Even if it may hurt them down the road, the Avs widest window is right now. I understand your mindset and as a Lightning fan I used to think the same way, but in reality, having quality players is the most important factor of building a cup winning team. Besides, Colorado has some options to move money. Compher, Donskoi, Johnson, and Kadri all have moveable contracts and in my opinion it wouldn’t hurt to lose some of those guys. The Avs have the prospects/depth to replace them up front. I feel like McDonagh would provide invaluable experience to a blueline that tremendously needs it.

And it's NOT like we pitching McDonough .. but him and Killorn are 2 glue guys on Tampa ..both "As" for a reason.. that are essential to Tampa success.. again focus on Johnson Gourde Palat and Stamkos as they not critical .. if movong the 4 can be pulled off.. Goodrow can stay and 3 peat is in play with a couple of UFA pick ups .. in any scenario I see Colemen and Savard gone .. having both of them on 3rd line/pair was just obscene

I don’t know where you are getting 9 more because Jost and Timmins are the only ones that played regular minutes that don’t already have replacements in place and are going to be less than $3M combined. PEB, Calvert, Nemeth, Soderberg (already gone to Sweden), Dubnyk, and O’Brien are all gone and Saad too likely. CF doesn’t have Newhook, LOC, Kaut or Bowers listed on the primary roster, and EJ and Francouz are both still listed on IR

They have 11 contracts signed of a 23 man roster. Landeskog + Makar + Grubauer = 14 total after they're signed. Need 9 more. Wasn't refering to specific players, just guys to fill the line-up.

Except that Newhook, LOC, Kaut, Bowers, EJ, and Francouz aren’t listed on the active roster by CF. Francouz and EJ count against the CAP while not taking roster spots because they are listed on IR. So in actuality they have $21.3M in cap space to sign 5 spots.

Gotcha, I was looking at the main cover page, not their details. It will be interesting if Landeskog, Makar and Grubauer follow in the footsteps of MacKinnon and take a home team discount in order to take a run at something special. GL has already made a pile of money in his career, he may eat some cash. Makar knows he's going to make a fortune in his career, so he might do a bridge deal at a discount to get the team over the flat cap hump. Grubauer I'm not so sure. He has made OK money in his career, but coming off his past three or four seasons where he played really well, he might be looking to cash in as he turns 30 near the beginning of the season. There's no obvious heir apparent.
