Description
You would be surprised how Bob bounces back with the MIN defence in front of him. For those who are frustrated due to my posts today, I am really sorry, but I really wanna discuss that with somebody.

Couple of immediate thoughts/questions of the top of my head:
1) I think it’s fair to package Rask and Parise together for Bob. It’s only 1 year of Rask for FL and makes the money closer to even, and represents the extra year of Bob vs Parise. Thoughts?
2) Would there be any want to position it where Talbot is the likely pick by SEA? I feel like Soucy might have more trade value than Talbs but maybe I’m just dumb on that.

The idea with Rask to Florida is good and I think fair, but let’s wait until FLA fans arrive and discuss that. I think either Talbot or Soucy are taken. In this case, SJS wants a goalie and thus I gave Soucy to Seattle

Yeah fair point on Soucy/Talbs. Looking at this more, it would be my preference to try and deal Dumba to PHI or NJ for Frost/1st or Boqvist/1st. Eliminates the need for Kampf and gets and extra pick. Money allows you to resign Cole. Suter and Cole can then split mentor duties with Mennell, Addison, Knyzhov and pair with them.

I also was brainstorming around a package for Hertl instead, but I’ll keep that separate for now and let your idea be the discussion.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a great hockey goalie mind, but I really don't want 10M tied up in a goalie for the next 5 years.

The Wild have shown that they can improve an average goalie to a good goalie. Since an average goalie goes for 4-5M AAV, we shouldn't be paying more than that for that position.

1) wild are better off keeping Parise
2) Bob sucked before he left for Florida, & has 5-6 years left on his contract for 10 mil a year
3) what is with wanting wild to take on an even worse contract? Bob's contract is one of the worst in the NHL, & was benched in playoffs

4) why are you just giving greenway to shatks?

Greenway for Knyzhov and Leonard, Talbot for a second.

Also, maybe with some retention from FLA, but this deal helps both teams since MIN defence would make Bob back to his Vezina condition and FLA gets a cheaper and less term contract. I would prefer my big bucks to be in a opening night roster than to just sit in a press box

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, but the idea here is that you essentially have 7.5M of dead cap in Parise for the next 4 years. Then you need ~4M for a goalie over that same time. So it’s almost like 11.5M where 4M of it is productive. In theory, if you can get >4M worth of value out of Bob, this would be a net gain. Obviously it’s not that simple in reality, but from a theoretical standpoint, that’s how I’m viewing this proposal.

Wild don't need a 10 mil g. Cam Talbot is alot whole better than Sergei

Wild still needs to field a team. That's not a reason for wild to trade for worse player, or contract, & still have Parise recapture on cap also. You are killing wild for years, & years with these move

They can't field a team much less add depth

This one has nothing to do with goalie. This one is about Parise. The only way to move him is to get a bad contract. Bob, Skinner, Karlsson…Bob makes the most sense since he can bounce back and give us a Fleury-Price quality performance when we contend. If not, his buyout is cheaper after a couple of years. Florida has to contend now thus they might take that.

I understand and respect that opinion, but I would send you back to @drmantalban ‘s post that is right before yours. He did a great job in explaining what this trade is about.

I disagree that the only way to get rid of Parise is to take a bad contract. I still like my idea of trading him to Arizona so they can buy him out and get to cap minimum cheaply. They won't send us a bad contract back.

That is an option, mine is another option. Pluralism of opinions is great. The only thing, teams have to risk to win a cup. We, the Russians, say “who never risks, never drinks Champaign” . And look at Tampa now after all those risky moves.

Ok, I get where the idea comes from now. But, the actual dollars spent doesn't make it work. Parise and 4M goalie guy cost 26M in actual salary over 4 years. Bob costs 46.5M over that same period. The trade saves 1.5M in cap per year and costs us 20.5M!!!

I know Leipold doesn't pay that much attention to the details, but I think he'd notice that. smile

Well that’s exactly why I find this move intriguing. It’s suuuuper ballsy. It’s something that could either get Guerin fired or hailed as a complete genius. Imagine if Bob actually came back and had a Vezina caliber season. It’s too risky for any GM to actually ever do, but it’s an interesting idea to me.
