Realistic offseason

Description
A blend of an aggressive and conservative offseason to acquire players to help make the playoffs this season. It looks likely that both Hughes and Pettersson contracts might be short term bridge deals to bring down the aav for this upcoming season.

  2. Roussel, Antoine
  3. Choix de 5e ronde en 2021 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
Miller wont be protected by Buffalo for the expansion draft. Has shown in the past an ability to be a legit top 4 option, but has regressed in Buffalo. In this deal Buffalo sheds a 3 .875 million dollar cap hit but acquires Roussel's 3 million dollar cap hit for a net difference of 875k. Buffalo also gets Bowey who Seattle might take select in expansion and a 5th round pick

  1. Juolevi, Olli [Droits de RFA]
  2. Choix de 2e ronde en 2021 (VAN)
Détails additionnels:
Tampa is going to be in a tricky situation this offseason. They are going to need to shed some cap and this trade would be a way to get almost 5.2 mil off the books. They are probably going to lose McDonagh to Seattle which would leave a hole on left D. Olli Juolevi could probably step into Tampa's 3rd pair in a sheltered role and do fine. Tampa also receives the 40th pick in this draft.

VAN
  1. Nutivaara, Markus
  2. Choix de 6e ronde en 2021 (FLA)
FLA
  1. Schmidt, Nate
Détails additionnels:
Schmidt reportedly wants out of Vancouver and I think there is a potential deal to be had here with Florida post expansion draft. As it currently stands, I think Florida is going to lose Gustav Forsling to Seattle. This creates a big whole on their left side of D. Nutivaara found himself as a scratch at times this season and i cant help but wonder if Florida would want to move off his 2.7 mil dollar cap hit. Florida reportedly had interest in Schmidt last offseason, and for good reason. If the panthers were to acquire Schmidt i think he could really have a bounce back season with the cats and be a nice fit in their top 4. If this deal were to happen, Florida would essentially get Schmidt for 40% retained next season due to Nutivaara's 2.7 being moved. This would leave Floridas blue line next season to be Schmidt-Weegar

I hope the Pens are able to sign J.Chatfield to a league minimum deal as RHD depth.

Canucks fans don’t want to see him resigned??

No thanks to big of a cap hit for Schmidt. Nucks would either have to retain for get a 3rd team to retain for them in order for the Cats to consider.

Yandle has a no move clause so its for sure going to be tricky to get around his deal. Buying out his deal might hurt the cats from a long term perspective

The cap hit is for sure large but if he is able to regain form from his Vegas days, the cats could have a legit top 4 d man in him. I think the canucks taking back Nutivaara's 2.7 would make it more enticing for the cats because they would essentially get Schmidts first season at a 40% discount

They need to shed salary. Badly. They are not exactly in a position of leverage in this situation

Still would want some retention. If Cats can move Yandle and Stralman without retaining then I can see Schmidt without retention.

TB trades Gourde for that high 2nd alone. Let alone a very cheap LHD prospect, NHL ready.

Maybe more likely just for the 2nd alone with no salary cap coming back.

But why wouldn’t they take 23 year old, former 5th overall pick, who is gonna make less than 250k more than league minimum. His QO only has to be 875K.

Hughes deserves a better defense partner than Poolman.

I don't think Poolman is too great, but he does have some really nice underlying defensive results and he is affordable so i think it is worth trying out to see if there is a stylistic fit with Hughes

VAN should just bring back Schenn then.

Sure he's an option as well. Poolman is just younger and his defensive metrics are slightly better than Schenn's but there are a few options they could sign on right d for relatively cheap including someone like Kevan Miller or Jason Demers

I think McDonagh is getting claimed by Seattle and a guy like Johnson has negative value on his deal. Tampa would have to give up decent assets to shed Johnson's cap hit. Palat is UFA after next season so it might be in Tampa's best interest to bite the bullet and trade Gourde and the 4 years remaining on that deal

I think Tampa is willing to give up an asset for both Johnson and Palat if it means keeping a guy like Gourde who does it all for them
