Description
First of all, here's why I believe we should NOT do big moves (like trade for Eichel for instance): Gallant just got here. Let him see what he has before making any rash decision. Let him gauge his roster. Also, since our kids are still very young, let them show what they've learn in the past few seasons.

Oesterle signing: move made to buy time for Jones to develop.

Explanation: ANA barely has room for him in the lineup, but we do, and he's the kind of 4th liner we need.

Explanation for letting him go: Idk, he seems like the perfect example of a one season wonder and we have other offensive weapons

Most I'd give is a 6th. He's not good. I understand the use here for him but it's not worth a 4th.

I love this. This is what the offseason needs to look like. Give Gallant time to assess and allow us to see who will be here long term.

I would only add Deslauriers to be a situational reserve instead of a regular 4th liner. The Rangers need more forechecking and better faceoffs before a fighter. That’s why you saw Jordan Martinook in my recent ACGM.

But as for the big picture, you’ve nailed it. New York needed to improve the status quo, but swapping David Quinn for Gerard Gallant will be the basis for deciding to what extent the Rangers need to do that.

This might be a mind blowing thought… but the “ADA has played his last game in NYR” was from the old management and coaching staff. Think there’s any possibility he returns and produces again. It just crossed my mind.. we don’t know all the specifics but his behaviour could have also been a byproduct of the coaches and their egos. Obviously not putting a ton of weight in that but maybe… maybe… hmm 🤔

I would love him back and I think Gallant would like his style in the lineup. 24 hour buyout window could start after tonight if Tampa wins. Most NY writers think he’s getting bought out then

Can’t see what the rush would be to buy him out before the exp draft….I’ve always been a supporter of the edge he brings to the lineup. But wIth the info available on him at the time he was traded to the Rangers and the recent events which include him challenging a fan to a fight through social media…he is a difficult guy to defend even though there is very little confirmed info out there as to what he did to get kicked off the team. At this point NYR would just do best by moving on….JG’s poor asset management killed any value they could have received for him…and the right side of their D seems to be loaded up anyway…and the distraction which would be generated around him would probably outweigh the positive contribution he could make in playing.

Sounds like they may wait for the second window just in case they make a trade and need him to be compliant with expansion rules. I loved his edge too. Quinn mismanaged that whole thing from the start of the season. He took a stupid penalty for slamming the door but they had zero emotion that game and got ran over by the Isles in the season opener. Scratching him for two games was bull****. Quinn also didn’t give him much chance on the left side with Trouba. That’s where they need a vet this year. Faux outrage against him for his political views but that’s the world we live in. Hope he gets his career restarted somewhere else

Agreed on all points…my gut tells me ALL the outrage against him is due to his political views- which he will not relent on…some of the outrage is claimed for him being a “bad guy” since his youth….but if there were so many problems with his character why would JG commit 9M over 2 years? A little more had to have happened between contract signing and his blackballing…maybe once he’s bought out we’ll find out a bit more..,but I do think for sure a team will get a real bargain with him and he will be a real good citizen while he tries to rub the Rangers’ nose in the “mistake” they made with him.
