Hawks aren’t going to retain that much money and give up a good pick for nothing in return.

I think you guys still have Keith playing like he has 2015 value. He’s decent still but since he’s forced the hawks hand by asking for a trade they have no leg to stand on. They can’t afford anymore negative press, and honestly getting a young controllable dman out of the situation should be considered a bonus for S.B at this point

Your value of Keith is over inflated. If anything Chicago will be paying to rid that buyout prof contact, this is why the talks have cooled between Edmonton and Chicago. Frankly, giving up Jones for Keith straight up is a bad trade.

This here is exactly what I mean. The hawks get a good young dman who is controlled for a few years, get out of a bad deal eating less than half and only give up a second. Oil recoup lost potential in Jones with 2nd and get a good voice in the room for a manageable cap hit

I haven’t seen anything written where Keith has specifically asked for a trade, or anything that implies he’ll be upset without one. There are plenty of ways for him to see his son without trading him. Frankly, I suspect that if Canada’s COVID restrictions are relaxed and he’s still here, it won’t be an issue. We have the young defensemen and cap flexibility to just give him time off during the season as well. I think you’re over-estimating your bargaining position here.

The point of being closer to his kid isn’t the restrictions, it’s if on an off day from Edmonton, Vancouver, Calgary, or Seattle it’s less than an hour flight to see his son play or practice. From Chicago it’s more like 3-4 with time changes. Can’t just do that on an off day in Chicago. It’s been reported by multiple outlets and sources from across the hockey spectrum. I don’t see him sitting out if he’s not traded, but it’s kind of a bad look for the hawks to ignore the request at this point.

Again, the Hawks can afford to give him a week off here and the throughout the year, if the dude only played 40 games this year it would be fine. The Hawks are going to try to accommodate him, but I just don’t see them being willing to take a bath on a trade like this. Nobody is going to fault the team for not screwing themselves over. Worst case scenario, the team team tells him “We tried, sorry” and he can retire, void his contract, or sit out.

You obviously have no clue about cap recapture penalties on those huge deals. But sure man piss him off and sit him for 5.5 mil or have him retire and really mess your cap up

In addition to Keith wanting out, it's well known that the Hawks want to be rid of his contract so that they can pursue Jones or Hamilton. Their fans can pretend otherwise, but Bowman isn't negotiating from a position of strength here.

I’m thinking you have no clue about the cap recapture if you think that it’s going to screw up the Hawk’s cap. It’s less than 4 million a year and would actually be preferable to a buyout. If he wants to get pissed off, that sucks, but again, the team isn’t going to totally screw themselves over to accommodate him.

We can still afford him and there would be better offers out there. 2 years from now we might to shed cap but not yet
