Description
Obviously NTC/NMC are an issue but if they weren’t a thing I believe TOR could build a very tough team to play against. Both physical and skilled. Plus cap space for a big deadline acquisition or 2. I feel this roster is more of a Lou & Babcock team. Thoughts??

Really? I think Marner would take JG and EL to a new level in scoring. Can’t deny his skill.

No way Ottawa declines that. Toronto would laugh at that offer.

Personally I would want on of JG or SM to go to Toronto. They both suck in playoffs and if they didn't that would be 20+ mill of amazing in regular season but not the best in playoffs. Plus Tkachuk rumors are False he isn't available PLUS we need Physicality more than scoring IMO.

Ya you’re diving too deep on this rumour thing. I’m not saying anyone wants out of any organization here. Title didn’t say chuckie wants out or anything. I was just building a roster that I like using the Toronto roster. But once MM16 leaves TOR he will perform in playoffs. City is far too hard on the kid and knows they are eyeing him every second he plays there.

Not really, the line would get pushed around way more. JG was glued to an injured Monahan and an AHL plug 75% of the season. He was producing at a 109 point pace when paired with Tkachuk and Lindholm (15 game sample size though).

So CGY shut down MM16 all season because he is soft? I didn’t watch many CGY this season(maybe 6-8) so I likely didn’t see much against TOR

I said the line is soft, Marner is a great player but especially on a line with Gaudreau and Lindholm everything he provides is pretty redundant outside of having a replacement guy if EL gets kicked out of the face off circle. EL's 2way game is better than Marners, is Tkachuk's (though doesn't play PK) is about the same, Gaudreau's playmaking ability and offensive prowess is definitely on par with Marner's. A line of Gaudreau - Lindholm - Tkachuk is much harder to play against than Gaudreau - Lindholm - Marner.

Maybe crying in your closet will help.. the concept of getting Brady for 8 years and the 2 picks which are early 2nds in a draft with depth for 3 years of AM34(who isn’t resigning in Canada). Seems like a solid deal both ways.

Wasn’t Marner one of the top players in the league for takeaways? I could have sworn I saw or heard that stat somewhere. + PK ability. And offensive side. Losing out on the physical side and the penalties. But ya, I get that it’s 3 soft guys on a line. Might matter.

Again Marner is a really good player, just not what Calgary needs, definitely not at the loss of Tkachuk

No, both players are great and bring different things to a team. No question that both teams are well off with either one. But the value in the trade isn’t far off. I was only making a roster I liked for TOR but ya, I couldn’t care less for 31/32 teams, was just having some fun with ideas

Personally I think the value is a 1 for 1. From a Flames perspective I would still rather keep Tkachuk though in that instance, and Toronto probably the same for Marner

You clearly underrate Auston Matthews and overrate Brady Tkachuk. And what makes you so confident that Brady Tkachuk signs for 8 years and Matthews is leaving Canada in 3? If both guys were to stay on their current teams I'd say there is a better chance that Matthews stays longer with Toronto than Brady does with Ottawa.

TOR
Tkachuk, Brady [RFA Rights]
2021 2nd round pick (OTT)
2021 2nd round pick (SJS)
OTT
Matthews, Auston

=====

As much as I like Brady, this is a steal for Ottawa. Toronto doesn’t touch this trade.

For me though, I’d hesitate just because I don’t want any player that makes over 10% of a teams cap. Yes they are great players, but I prefer a more balanced roster.

Marner last time l heard was 3rd in takeaways behind Matthews and Mark Stone. Marner if he played the last game this year would have lead the league 2 years in a row in ice time for forwards. The leafs aren't trading their only forward that's on the #1 unit in every situation. Unless you see him play all year people don't realize how great he is. Keefe over played him in the regular season and he had nothing left come playoff time
